Last year during the trade period, I was adamant the Tigers should be going after Seaby as opposed to Maric. At no point in time could I remember watching Maric play for the Crows. I went purely off stats from his Crows and SANFL games and I felt he wasn't a ruck who could add anything to the Tiges.

I can honestly say I was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! And am delighted to be so wrong. Seriously, I can't begin to describe the impact the big fella has had on our mids. He plays very much like an old fashioned ruck:

- physical presence
- takes contested marks
- taps to advantage
- team oriented / plays for the team rather than himself
- physical presence (can't be under-estimated)
- drops back and helps the backs by taking up space and take marks
- goes forward and kicks the odd goal and isn't a passenger

Maric has been fantastic for the Richmond FC and I look forward to the mullet helping us build into a formidable force over the coming years.

And all this from an "old" ex ruck who pays particular attention to the big blokes in the comp. I thought I was a decent judge but goes to show that stats mean **** all when it comes to heart. Sure he has ability but loving his heart.

Keep proving me wrong big man! And congrats and a great start to what I hope is a fantastic career at the Tiges.

P.S. Hoping one day to come on here and say the same about Edwards.

How can could you make a judgement on someone you have never seen play. You don't need to apologize to anyone except yourself.

Just jokes , I remember reading all the don't waste our pick 37 on Maric talk and how he was a hack and couldn't get a game at the crows. He was actually in their leadership group.

Marics problem was Neil Craig only playing Jacobs and not playing 2 Rucks . Imagine the year Ivan would of had playing out of the forward pocket with small bursts in the centre.

If you had of checked the stats on his last few games for Adelaide while Jacobs was injured he dominated. One game he kicked 3 goals. Then it was back to the SANFL once Jacobs got fit.

Well done Craigy

Hindsight a beautiful thing Rusty. Looking back at the Crows days now I can see he could play but just wasn't given a chance.

I also had no idea until now that he was in their leadership group.

If you look at the crows board the consensus was that Maric could play, there just wasn't room for 2 rucks the way they played and Jacobs was probably just ahead. Maric was far too good to be a back up ruck and is a great example of rucks that flourish once they get the chance to be number 1.

I was 100 percent against Seaby coming to our club when WC were trying to suck us in, ordinary footballer who went well among stars at WC.

;)ANOTHER few weeks like the last three and you will be apologising re Titch too.
Thought he showed a bit early in his career as a forward and then was thrown all over the shop.
Back in the forward line (where he should have been all along) he's starting to show us what he can do.

As for Maric, I took the view that a kid from the under 17s at Greensborough or South bendigo would have been a big upgrade on what we had gotten from the ruck division the last few years, but was confident Maric would evolve into a pretty handy type. Well .... he's more than handy!!

Ha Ha. I was reading through an old thread about maric yesterday (killing some time) and getting a chuckle from some of the posts.
But rather than dredge up all those bad calls I think Up The Guts should be acknowledged for his call on Ivans recruitment:thumbsu:

Maybe I'll refresh myself with that thread in preparation for all those who come on here saying that have always been for the Maric trade. IIRC, there were only a few who were touting Maric as the one to chase.

Edwards has definitely improved. Maybe we / I had unreal expectations from him and rather than being a key mid for us, he is that hff with the occasional push up the wing. But don't hold your breath just yet about me calling that one. I'm happy to do it but now is not the right time. Still has some proving to do.

Fair enough 1980- I really like Edwards- brings a lot of energy and great hands in close- seems to be developing confidence to enable him to take the next step
