I'm afraid it's time to give The Sarge a rest.

There was no excusses for the dropped marks & poor disposal yesterday. Since Jarman has left his kicking has gone backwards at a million miles an hour & he is a liability in our forward line. His best work in the last month has been by getting the hell out of there & freeing up some space.

He tries as hard as anyone but it just isn't enough.

I think he took some really good marks ,but must admit he hasn't got a great footy brain. But what interests me is that two of the greatest CHF of all time ( Dermie and Carey ) have a lot of time for him. So if they think he's OK so do I.

I think you misread Dermies praise. I think Dermie aprreciates how hard "Pezza" works but but has adopted him as a favorite due to his lack of footy skills. Dermie is usually laughing when he is giving him a wrap.

Carey has not mentioned Perrie for quite some time and I'm not sure if his opinion of hime in recent times is as it was at the start of the season.

Yep agree that Ian Perrie should have a rest back at Prospect oval for a few weeks and possibly bring Fergus Watts in or Trent Hentschel back as a DEFENDER.

When we got ourselves back into the game in the second quarter, it was Ian Perrie leading the charge with involvement in most of our thrusts forward. I think the problem that a lot of you folk have here, is that you are still waiting for him to become the next Duck or Dermie. He aint. He is a workhorse that will give a contest. He moves around a lot thereby creating space for messrs Welsh, McGregor, Hentshel et al. He will take the best or second best defender every week. Do you really think Fergus can deal with that?

When Perrie stops presenting & creating space for others then it will be time to send him back to the SANFL.

If he had have kicked 2 or 3 goals yesterday instead of spraying them he would have made the best players list.

Hang on to those easy marks & get a bit of confidence back in shooting for goal is what he needs at the moment & i don't think being dropped back to the SANFL is the right move at this stage & would be surprised if NC does do so.

Spot on TM. Perrie is a workhorse that will run all day long, Watts and/or Hentschel dont have this quality yet, perhaps they never will. I would definately be looking to groom Watts/Hentschel to play CHF for the long term. However for season 2005, Perrie is the most consistent of the three at doing the hard running and presenting, and NC seems to want that more than anything from our CHF. I see it as a structure issue.

It has it's positives & as long as Ian Perrie is contributing to the overall performance of NCs game plan then i see no reason just yet to discard the Sarge.

Good post Toolman, I thought Perrie did alright yesterday and he just contiunally presented, yes dropped a couple he should of took but he took a few good contested marks aswell so overall not bad and got rewarded from the umps with his constant pressance with a couple of free kicks.

I will say think he needs to go back to a set routine when kicking for goal and also get the glove back Sarge

At this stage dropping him will do his confidence no good, so persist with him I say, especially with Welsh being hot and cold, Welsh never got into the game until the last 1/4 yesterday so we need Perrie to stand up.

There are more than just him who agree.
A fair few of you tend to judge and criticise the negatives of the sarge where there were also a fair few positives in his game yesterday! I also think there is room for improvement but all I see is that he hardly gets praised for the work he does on the ground. Everyone makes mistakes, unfortunately his shortcomings are ones that get scrutinized the most

PULEASE, the blab that goes on about Perrie and his work rate, and he presents, and competes etc etc, is getting quite ridiculous. He does not have enough ability to play AFL football, and he should not be. His lack of skill is a liability and will cost the crows games, if it hasnt already. Please stop all the dribble.

I'm with you, and I couldn't have said it better myself.

I can understand how his lack of skill gets to people - it gets to me- but just right now he's our best option for all the reasons that the Toolman has outlined above.

Watts will eventually take his place, but he's not ready for CHF at this level just quite yet.

As for the comment about him becoming the next carey yadda yadda. Give us a break. I would be happy with someone who didn't spill uncontested marks & was at least a remote possibility of kicking 1 straight.

Fair enough post there buddy.......so instead of dropping Perrie...he needs to become less of a focus or more of a decoy.

The only thing that will take pressure off Pez is the presense of a greater credible threat in our fwd line. Jericho was brought into the side to play a fwd flanker type role, but is not getting much game time.....why not bring Watts in for Jericho......play Watts as a conventional CHF....and get Pez to work further up the ground towards the wings....where I think he has done his best work. Kenny Mac can stay at home in the goalsquare, and I would play Welsh, Macca, and Ladhams as the goal sneeks....

Youre arguement would have more credibility if the forward line was actually functioning, but its not even close. Our forward line has the worst conversion in the competition yet you carry on about how valuable Perrie is to the other forwards.

Perrie has some positives, bulk and effort being the main ones, but with McGregor in the forward half we already have the big body that Craigy says we need.

With Bock looking good at CHB I fear Perrie is quickly becoming an extra in the crows '05 season video.

His hands above his head are awful. His recovery to contest at ground level once he has spilled a sitter (a frequent occurance) is below par. He is constantly forced to push wide to get into the game. His usage of the ball is Birdman-like.

Perrie simply doesn't trouble oposition back-men (and the scorer for the past three weeks mind you). He doesn't present an option for the midfielders to aim for with any confidence. Surely he must go! You've gotta play the kids some time!

IMO, Perrie has taken a few steps backwards this year, some of the fumbling yesterday was very poor, at one point he had the ball at CHF, and really looked like a cat looking into headlights, I dunno if he confidence is shot to peices or his timing is just out, but something is definately amiss. The decision of him return to North is gunna be a tough one, he is goes back there and still performs below par like he is for a the Crows at the moment probably means his career could be in trouble, or does Graigy stick with him and hope that he comes good whilst playing for the Crows ; the guy has talent, we've all seen it before , lets hope we can all see it again soon.

I'm pretty sure that Teague got moved off of Pezz yesterday in the second quarter as he was giving him a bath....

He gives more than a 100% each week and always creates a contest..... maybe drops a few marks, but hey not everyone is perfect. I people are going to have ago at anyone for there form, maybe you should have a look at McGregor, he was shyte yesterday........ was bloodly soft all day.

Not carrying on about it....just stating simple logic. If Perrie runs up and down the ground all day and out to the wings, by simple definition, space is created for others to run into. I think our forward lines has more concerns than I.Perrie.

Perrie is a third forward, a foil, forced to play as our key forward/CHF most weeks. As such he struggles.

If we had the luxury of a gun forward as a focal point, Perrie would thrive as the focus of the opposition's defence is taken away from him and he gets a lesser man to stand.

I liken our situation with Perrie to if Toby Thurstans, Jade Rawlings, Kent Kingsley, Drew Petrie, Ben Holland, Troy Simmonds, Jason Saddington or Quentin Lynch had to play as their team's focal point. Sure they're all capable players to varying degrees and can deliver a solid performance on their day, but they ain't no focal point. Fortunately they have superior players to take the heat off them. Perrie doesn't.

Perrie is doing a good job for us at the minute. Why do people on this site want to continually highlight his mistakes? He took a couple of strong, contested marks yesterday and sure, he dropped a couple but we have all watched the Crows long enough to know that is what you get with Perrie.

Roo, Thompson and Bassett (and others) all made shocking skill errors yesterday and no one is calling for those guys to back to the SANFL. People should stop fantasising about Perrie going back to the local comp because it is not going to happen. Get off the guy's back, if you want to stick it to someone, Chris Ladhams should be the one in the gun - half a dozen dispoals with North on the weekend and spent time on the bench due to his pi55 poor attitude. Ladhams would get a game with the Crows every week if he had half of Perrie's work ethic.

Couldn't agree more

When Fergus does come into the side, I think it has to be with both Watts and McGregor in the same forward line.

We cannot expect Watts to hold CHF this year. He is nowhere big enough and no where experienced enough to do that. He needs to beef up and play a few games in peripheral roles before he is thrown to the CHF.

Sarge has a role to play and while he plays that role NC will keep him in the side. Perrie will never be a match winner. He will always be an average player who plays within his limitations. He plays a role that NC wants him to play and despite the bagging he cops, I would suspect that he would be doing pretty well in best team man award.
