I know many of you think that prenda's best position is in the midfield...but i was just wondering what you all thought of this: I think that we can use prenda as a chf, much like riewoldt. Look at this:

Nick Riewoldt: 193cm and 92kg

Ian Prendergast: 192cm and 95kg

Surprisingly similar! I think it would be worth a shot.

Thoughts?????

For a player his size Prendergast certainly doesn't play tall. Has the build but has no balance and is pushed out in the marking contest far too easily. Size does not equal talent and while Prender has his strengths, he is no Riewoldt. He has proven time and time again, he is a running big man with a huge engine but he can't play key position.

agree ...

its like saying steven kenna is the same as brent harvey cos they are both same dimensions ...

sadly prenda is not cut out for a kpp ... but as a midfielder (similar to blake) he is quite damaging.

we have to hope waite, norman, livo, thornton, fev, setanta (?) will hold our key positions for years to come ... and hopefully willits!!!!! ;)

Prendagast's best attribute seems to be taking strong marks over the small blokes in the midfield. He's got such great fitness that he'll make it to a marking contest time and time again. Meaning more marks for Prenda and more entries into the forward line. :)

Prendergast best position is half forward. Unfortunately not CHF and would be fighting Waite for a spot in the 18. I know which one I would prefer in my 22.
Depending on the ground he can also play as damaging wingman floating between CHB and and CHF. he is also excellent in coming over the top in rucking contests. i think because of his hardness and running ability there is a spot for Prendergast in our best 22.

Snickers originally he was a clumsy looking kick but it is an area of his game that has really improved over the last 2 years, almost to the point of Prenda being one of the longest kicks on the run in the team. He still looks a bit awkward when kicking the ball but his accuracy in pin pointing a teammate down the field has definitely improved. He is surprisingly quite accurate in front of the sticks as well.

Ian Prendergast is a machine of a man and built like a truck!!!

Although playing as a key position player does not come naturally to him, neither does football. He works harder than anyone else on the field. If you were to play Prenda In say, a Chad Cornes type role in defense he could grow into the position. I don't feel that Prenda has been tried long enough in a defensive position and that if he was given a bit more time he could grow into a damn good CHB

XXX Kings.

Good call, he has physical stye and runs through the lines. Likes to rough it up and has numbers around him down back.

Lotta these guys Fisher, Waite, Thornton, Norman and Walker are still 1-2 years from maturing physically, heard that at last call Norman was closer to 6"3 (194cm).

While most "experts" pull themselves over midflielders, it is this crop of bigger guys that is the real future and it is a team that will have mulitple options through the experience gained early. These guys have all got 15-40 games under them.

Look at Collingwood, every time they have a decent year they dump the onballers and spend a squillion on who cares midfielders like Woewodin and probably Caracella, when they should be looking tall.

Stevens was different, the midfield was built around him, and his ability to generate play.

Also reckon once Fisher gets to 92-95kg with his marking he is also a kpp.

See him as Stewart Loewe was a the beginning of his career, good overhead, couldn't kick over a jam jar.

We got rid of your worst 6, that is unfortunate, but this is a team for the future, and that will place pressure on players to keep their place.

If they draft well, and i mean quality now, not stop gap, there is reasonable depth and with the development of the bigger guys continue, i would be hoping for a 12/10 season not 10/12.

Rucks still concern me.

I reckon he should play CHB. He's got stamina but not a hell of a lot of pace, which doesn't matter IF your HBF's can lend support. I'd like to see him matched up on Riewoldt, cos Riewoldt is a superstar, no question.

Prenders is the hardest working player I've seen in ages.

Nothing really comes naturally to him, except endeavour. He seems to have a heart for the game and the club so you cannot question him.

He seems to have good hands too but his kicking isn't the best. I'm sure that can get ironed out during the off season.

can see what your saying here but IMO there is still a huge question mark over Prenda's ability to play as a key position defender on quality forwards. Just don't believe he reads the ball well in the air. With his renewed confidence and good form over the past 18 mths playing predominantly as tall midfilelder I think it would be in the teams and Prendas best interest to leave him there.

Yep, fair call. It's hard enough getting big blokes these days, so when you do get them, I believe you must give them a go in key positions.

I suppose my comment above should have been "we should TRY him at CHB".

His best footy so far is in the middle as a somewhat clumsy mid fielder but with a bit of confidence and nous he could shape up as a kpp. Let's hope.
