*rankings are at Freo and players must have played at least four games to qualify.

Highlight – After missing the first four games of the season, Ibbotson returned in round 5 and made an instant impact, collecting 24 possessions and 11 marks to play a crucial part in a thrilling win. The ball fittingly was in his possessions at the final siren, when he beat a Richmond player in a desperate race to the ball deep inside the Tigers’ attacking 50. With Freo only a point up, the game could have been lost or drawn if not for his presence. Ibbotson kept this sort of form going for most of the season until injury ended his year.

Summary – This was the most comfortable Garrick Ibbotson has looked on an AFL field since becoming a Fremantle Docker. He was always a brilliant athlete, but in 2013 ‘Ibbo’ put it all together. He played on Freo’s half-back line, leading the team for intercept marks per game because of his loose-man role.

Finals

Did not play – an Achilles injury ended his year after round 18.

Room to improve: 2014 is all about consolidation and availability for Ibbotson. He must continue to improve on the great form he displayed in his 13 games this season, but he must also stay out on the park to ensure he doesn’t miss out at the business end of the year again.

I'll put my hand up and say it. I did not see such improvement coming. I was surprised in the way little kids are when they discover Santa came.
Good year when he was fit.

When does his contract run out? Some conjecture this time last year that he was reluctant to re-sign, or maybe it was that we were reluctant to offer another deal to him, can't quite remember now. Did we lock him away for a while?

Just realised how few games he actually played. Felt like more from memory. But very good in those he played.

I think last year around this time most people were thinking he wasn't contracted for 2013. And I still don't know about next year, but likely he is out of contract, when he wasn't last year...

9/10 year for Ibbo. The extra point is missing for not playing more game and making AA as he should have.

Hope he get out on the field and play a full season next year. Can see defensive AA squad featuring Ibbotson, Johnson and McPharlin next year.

Like many others I had pretty well given up on Ibbo. Happy to be proved wrong. Consistently good performances this year moved him from bottom six in the twenty two to middle ten.

One of many players who have benefited from the appointment of Ross Lyon. He now has a task in the playing group and excecuted it very well. Really felt for him during the finals.

Expecting a big year from him next season.
