Discuss the 4th match of the Super Six stage between India and Sri Lanka on this thread.

This day game will be played in Johannesburg, exactly 13 days before the World Cup final on this ground.

Neither side was convincing in their opening Super Six game with Sri Lanka copping a huge loss from Australia whilst India struggled in their opening batting against the so called cricket minows Kenya.

Jayasuria is expected to miss after being struck by a Brett Lee thunderbolt whilst Sehwag from India is still troubled by injury.

Channel 9 in Perth will show the 2nd innings live from 11pm.

thanks for the perth tv update, that's just great news. but seriously, sri lanka are in a bit of trouble. a win will turn it around, but that won't win come in this match. india will secure their 2nd spot in the table. sri lanka will be left to sweat for a few more days.

Sri Lanka will struggle without Jayasuriya at the top of the innings and will have to rely on De Silva, Attapatu and perhaps Jayawardene, (who has been dreadfully out of form so far in the tournament) to score some runs for them to be a chance in this game.

India were lucky to scrape home against Kenya the other day and can thank Ganguly for getting them over the line. Their batting looks strong with Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly and Sehwag (if fit) and providing they bowl well, I think they can get over Sri Lanka in this one.

Err, if it's on at 11pm, it won't be live.

Jayawardene, (who has been dreadfully out of form so far in the tournament)
Why is he still in the team? Average less than 4 - he should be dropped. Then again, keep him cos it's most likely that we will play them again in the semis.

This is the by far the most critical game in the super sixes. The result will go a long way to shaping the semi's.
Basically both sides are fighting for survival, and New Zealands hopes also rest heavily on this game. Kenya's too probably.

If the rivalry is anything like the Paki/India game, it will be a ripper.

Couple of good days (nights) of cricket ahead of us.

Well, we may have finally discovered Tendulkar's weakness.

What you need to do is let him get into the 90's ............

Two of his last three digs he's been very tentative before getting out just short of 100, albeit to arguably the best ball of the series against Pakistan by Shoab Aktar. (I reckon the other best ball of the World Cup, ironically also to Tendulkar, was the Gillespie slower ball against India which trapped Sachin LBW).

Also, a question to the many cricketers out there - would you rather get 100 and 50 in consecutive innings, or two 99's ?

India 292 after 50. Sri lanka look to be gone. This will help NZ's cause as they only have to win one of Aust or India to guarantee a spot. Sri lanka should beat Zim to get 4th and kick Kenya out..... Unless Australia do something shifty.

Another one!

Aravinda out for 0

That's four ducks for the first four wickets. Sadly both the batsman in have scored so they can't go the Olympic but still - 4/22 in the 5th over.

Inept display from Sri Lanka. They are useless. This WC is between 3 nations.
i agree, except it might only be between 2 nations if NZ can't find another win.

Jayawardene is making Inzamin's world cup look good.

How in the hell is still being selected?! Is Sri Lanka's batting depth that bad? Has he even scored 20 runs all up in the world cup yet?

What gets me is why they bat Russell Arnold so low. I haven't seen much of his world cup but he played well enough in the VB series to justify being moved up the order. Certainly a better option than Jayawardene or Tillekeratne, we think Martyn and Bevan score slowly, Hashan is unbearably slow.

Did they take Tony Greig's favourite, Kalu, over to the cup? He could be another option for their batting. He wasn't in great form but he couldn't do any worse.

Sri Lanka better hurry up and find some new batting talent. Jayasuriya and De Silva are pretty much gone after the world cup and Atapattu is getting on (32 yo). Rip those three out of the Sri Lankan team and the gaping hole they leave is going to make them a very average team.

But they will scrape through on

Sri Lanka have made it this far purely on the back of Vaas and Murali who have both have had an exceptional especially Vaas who has 18 wickets so far and most thought he waas only an average fast bowler. SL have to pull themselves together before the hit Zimbabwe and they could well lose that one and be out. But they will scrape through because of their good performaces in the first phase.
