FM Belfast - Frequency
Icelandic Electro Pop. Fun stuff and has a unique sound despite the million electro pop bands with 80s influences around now.

múm - Green Grass Of Tunnel
Pronounced Moom. Really cool glitch bands that have a real childlike sound and have interesting instrumentation. Reasonable large and impressive back catalogue but their new one is one of their finest. This is one of my favourite film clips of all time.

Mugison - Murr Murr
The guy switches styles so much, you have to get all his albums to appreciate him. Here's one of his upbeat folk tunes, a song that beat Bjork for song of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards.

And to finish off, a live clip from Iceland's 2 main exports - Bjork and Sigur Ros

Feel free to post your own clips, I know there's a bit of an Icelandic Metal scene so some of that would be great from our boards metalheads.

When the Sugarcubes toured (1990 or 91?) and I was working at 3d Radio they gave a various artists CD of Icelandic bands at the time to the station There was some absolutely amazing stuff on it. We all thought the Sugarcubes were "out there" but some of these bands made the Sugarcubes sound like Abba!:D
Isolation certainly breeds an interesting brand of music.

Having spent just over a week in Iceland earlier this year, and two insanely drunken Friday nights in Reykjavik, (Icelandic schnapps being the main culprit) I can see where this inspiration comes from.

Corny I know, but as we drove along the glacial lagoons around the south eastern road, Sigur Ros was providing an almost organic soundtrack.

Ampop have a very Radiohead type sound, though this song is their most poppy. Good band.

FWIW, a lot of this music can be found at experimentalrock.wordpress.com/category/icelandic . Not very legal, but not much of this stuff is available at your local record store.

Can't find any good youtube clips, but Kira Kira is fantastic. Highly recommend the album 'Our Map to the Monster Olympics'.

The 7 songs in 7 days 'Found Songs' project, by Ólafur Arnalds, can be downloaded from the above link. Good listening, particularly when studying.

Am looking forward to seeing Emiliana Torrini @ Falls Festival in Lorne.

This song is from Fisherman's Woman. I realised today that it sounds like Nick Drake if he was female . Her newer album is also very good, but different and I hear her earlier albums were trip-hop.
