That very old, flickery, black and white newsreel TV show ending with:
"These are but a few of the passing parade."

Michael Jackson

Bob Francis

Bob Hawke

Whitney Houston

Princess Diana

Fall into the well known category, but far from icons in my opinion.

1 did SA over
A rock spider
1 did Australia over
A druggo
A ****=shallow, promiscuous attention seeker

Pretty sad day when Bob Francis actually tops a list

You aren't too far off the mark with those opinions.

I met Francis a couple of times when one of my sisters was married to another 5AD disc jockey back in the 70's.
My first impression was ordinary bloke, my 2nd impression was `very' ordinary bloke!

Sadly Christine Mc Vie of Fleetwood Mac fame joins the list of the those departed but not forgotten.

Another child-star gone, that's sad. I enjoyed "Eight is Enough" when I was a kid.

Eight Is Enough star Adam Rich is dead at 54 Eight Is Enough star Adam Rich is dead at 54 via https://dailym.ai/android

Makes me wonder how many child stars from 70s or 80s have managed to break the addiction cycle. Amazing that one of the most high profile, Todd Bridges, is still with us and must be pushing 60.

RIP Renee Geyer. Like Pell, died from complications following hip surgery, but it was also discovered that she had inoperable lung cancer. Probably the ciggies that gave her voice that distinctive jazz/soul timbre.

A mate of mine unfortunately no longer with us either, told me a story about Renee Geyer playing at the Largs Pier.

Somehow he found himself on the lighting that night and got it wrong. She belted out something like ā€œget that *ing light back on meā€.

RIP Renee
RIP Ron

Paul Kelly wrote Difficult Woman for her and in Kelly's words she took hold of it and made it her badge of honour, later calling her autobiography Confessions of a Difficult Woman. I think she probably out-divad the likes of Marcia Hines and Kate Ceberano.
