It was a brilliant idea to have Peter Ryan embedded in the Collingwood Football club during the 2009 season to chronical the year.

From time to time we commission Jamie Cooper to paint ...

And there are many many art treasures we hold dear ...

I think it'd be a great idea to establish the tradition of engaging an annual 'artist in residence' at the club. That person would be tasked with chronicling the year.

Not suggesting that we have somebody set up with an easel, canvas and paints on the boundary line. Could you imagine? ...

Bruce McAveney: "And Cyril goes back with the flight ... And he's taken a delicious chest mark as he runs over the boundary ... And oh no, he' bowled over Collingwood's artist in residence, paint goes flying everywhere! .... Cyril gets up ... he's looking like a rainbow man ... now that's an improvement to the power ranger jersey!! ... Ho ho ho <snort>"

... The artist in residence would be somebody who is behind the scenes. They'd work in mixed media (possibly paint, possibly photography, possibly performance art even ...

... Imagine them running a season of David Williamson's "The Club" at our new members' centre!

The artist in residence can produce art themselves, and they can also manage/direct the commissioning of other artists to contribute.

In addition to chronicling the year, they can run 'colouring in competitions' for the kids. They can run 'photography competitions' for the adults. They can run art classes for the players. They can manage the commissioning of an indigenous jersey design, etc, etc. They can work with the historians to file away keepsakes and records of the year.

It'd be an annual posting so that a different artist comes in each year.

Imagine if we'd had an artist in residence every year over the last 10, 20, 50, 123 years. Imagine what richness that would have brought to our history?

I'm an economic rationalist at heart - how would it be paid for? Poster sales, take a little out of the marketing budget, take a little out of the media budget. Heck, you might even convince a sponsor or coterie group to fund it.

Thoughts?

I like the idea of having someone around again for next season and keep a photo diary. I am getting the feeling 2016 will be a defining year.

And slightly off topic. I am actually trying to find a photo from the 2015 season.
Somewhere around early season, round 10-ish if I remember correctly.
Scene is as follows: Post match , Buckley waiting around the corner while the troops come in from a win . If someone has that still and care to share it, many thanks in advance.

I think this is an excellent idea. Sponsoring a different artist each year would be good too. Would give us a different perspective/interpretation for each season, and would spread the love (and money) around between artists, who typically struggle. The Pies have been innovators over the years, so why not again? I am hoping the new Community Centre has a much improved museum/display space than we currently have. Might be the perfect location for holding an end of season artistic display.

What an awesome idea. Ed's all about Collingwood history isnt he? He probably wouldnt care about generating cash from it if it were pitched to him from the right angle

You'll find that photo on the Clubs Facebook page

Indeed the North game. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threa...win-over-kangas.1099386/page-15#post-38860747
Reason why it is not on the Pies Website is because it was made by the Hun. And going through all the Autopsy & Analysis threads from months ago is fun to read in hindsight.
Anyway, this is 2015 for me.

And apologies to OP for slight derailing but if there was a photobook about 2015, this should be in it.

Love this idea 76, absolutely brilliant!

Please tell me you're sending a message to the club about this idea? Can't believe something like this hasn't been suggested before. At least not from what I've seen or heard anyway.
