If a Wildcard Weekend was in place this year...

Lots of folks are against a top 10 solely because it might 'reward mediocrity'.

Id be interested their thoughts on Essendons performance tonight.

Im not saying we would of done better (not putting much stock in the game 2 weeks ago) but the difference between 7th and 10th is not very big, if at all.

This season is an outlier. Every team bar the Bulldogs seemed to want to miss finals.

My idea
Top 8 finals but at end of home and away season the top 6 are in and then the next 4 teams with best percentage are the wildcards.

So this year it would have been:
Top 6 as is. And get week off

And then in bye week.

(7) hawthorn 108.7 v (10) Adelaide 100.9
(8) bulldogs 107.2 v (9) port 105.4

Winners fill the remaining two spots. Business as usual for top 8 from that point.

Percentage makes it a genuine wildcard.

And percentage usually shows something about the teams season.

May also help prevent blowouts in season as percentage matters

So your argument for letting 10 teams in the finals is that the 8th team wasn't good enough to be there? If anything that would be an argument for *reducing* the number of teams, not increasing it.
