If Carlton could sign one free agent, which type of player would you choose?

I'd vote for a quick outside midfielder with exquisite skills - someone capable of kicking 35 goals a season from a wing. (The next Paul Chapman.)

Kade Simpson, to a lesser extent Murph, is the only regular of our midfield rotation who damages opposition on the scoreboard.

Key positions? Nah, we just drafted 3 huge buggers in 2010. Patience!
Bingo. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

As for the holy grail of an inside midfielder to replace Diesel, let's not blow the salary cap on another Brock. Eduardo Curno did fine in his first year until he was injured.
How about we just let Tuohy become that player and get ourselves a kpp?

Yes,also chased by other codes.
Byrne has reportedly been offered a rookie deal by the Blues, who are based in Melbourne and currently have Laois' Zach Tuohy on their senior roster.

But the St Mochta's starlet, who still has another year with Louth at the minor grade, will have to wait if he wants to pursue a career in Australia. Under the present agreement with the GAA, AFL clubs are not permitted to sign GAA players until their minor commitments have been completed.
Starlet?

Carlton really should be having secret talks with the father of a Richmond player who is one of us. This player can play multiple positions, knows how to kick goals and is a elite player. He also qualify I think for Free Agency do it for payback for letting a pick 19 transfer. He is still rather young same age as Murphy and has already 150 games. This player will most likely get knocked back the Captaincy in his club as a young 21 year old looks like taking over soon. I wish the club can pull this off like they did with Judd.

Think of a midfield of Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, Yarran, Robinson, Carrazzo, Simpson, Walker, Buckley and player. I already have the player in mind to transfer to that club a position they badly need more then us that we have a few of.

Andrew Collins?

If richmond want anyone of our players I reckon it would be one of our rucks - aside from the obvious gibbs, murphy, Judd haha.

HA Ha nah not Andrew Collins he faces a tough year with so many players fighting a spot. Yes a Ruckman possibly Hampson although if he makes a top forward this year, the idea will be gone. I really can not see that happening but he can do well as a Ruckmen. I do not know how free agency works, can a player just move to a club of his choice and that club gets nothing. I presume it be like Judd deal that they ask for something they need and possibly more but we make that club our bitch lol.

Utility is practically HBF with Russell, Hurn and Shaw listed. Hodge would be the best utility to sign, but I'm trying to shy away from A graders who will be out of reach due to the salary cap. I hope Barry Prendergast and our scouts are scouring the lists of the other sides and searching for another Laidler who lacked opportunities at Geelong. Laids should be a bargain and ten year player.
If the geebungs had come out to Laids and told him that he would be playing more football last year as Milburn wound down his career, he might have considered staying with them and could have picked up a premiership medal with them right before their inevitable slide down the ladder...

As it is, he decided to move to the blues right as our premiership window was opening. I dont know where the media pundits get the idea that our premiership window is only open for 2-3 years... with the way we have been recruiting, I can see our premiership window staying open for the next 5-7 years with careful management of our list and playing staff turnovers.

But for our premiership tilt for next year... a KPF or a solid gold inside mid would be the best options.

the free agency aspect is kind of irrelevant. if we could recruit anyone, etc. obviously free agency is not going to toss us up all those options so that we can choose but that's beside the point.

anyway, would have to go KPD or KPF. i mean, we have sometimes spent whole seasons recently wishing we had more defenders so that thornton or bower could play 3rd tall defender. even as jamo has had some problems this year people have started to pee their pants at our defense line-up.

naturally my views might change depending on who was on offer, and when down the track it was...

Odd term to us, but we know what it means.
It seems as though we're going in very hard after the success-to-be of Tuohy.
Suggestions are that Kilkenny is ours, but advise may be forthcoming at a later stage.
Does anyone know whether we had Hughes or Rogers over in Ireland?

I'm expecting a couple of Kiwi names to come into the mix soon enough also, from an AFL perspective and not just Carlton.
Am I supposed to keep hush about the article floating about with a picture of the other Irish kid in Carlton getup that suggests it's all done and dusted for 2013? Or has somebody jumped the gun?

Im gonna be specific.

Cloke is a restricted free agent at the end of this year.

With GWS throwing a shit tin of money at him (rumoured to be 1 mill+), and the Pies unlikely to be able to afford anything bigger than around the 500,000 mark, should we get involved?

Could we afford him (in terms of $$) if we let a player or two go?

Delist or trade McLean, let JR go (also a restricted free agent) and with Scotland probably retiring (thats @ half a million there with those three). Add Judds contracts coming to an end and we might have the wiggle room to offer a bit.

Play for us for $800,000 a year (stay in Melbourne, play in premierships, earn 300k a year more than at Collingwood) vs GWS (1 mil a year, move to Blacktown, suck shit for 5 years), or stay at Collingwood and earn a lot less.

Should at least be having a look in.

This is the player, well one of them, that Tuohy for One was talking about a good four or five months ago.

There's another one still unnamed in the report who they've got their eyes on. A little younger than these boys but sublimely talented. Traveled with the Irish team (I believe).

How good did we look in the EF vs Essendon with Thornton taking contested marks up forward?

Straightened us up considerably.

We should totally make a decent play for Cloke.

I'd be very surprised if Murph kicked goals to a lesser extent than Simpson. I'd back him to have kicked more goals than Simmo in most of his seasons playing for us. Murph IS that player who is capable of kicking those 35 goals a year, and would've kicked close to that a couple of years back.
