If CP3 is MVP then Deron Williams is G.O.A.T.

I'm on the KG for MVP Bandwagon ... :D

Seriously though I'd love it if CP3 won as well, just such a player with a big heart who has done amazing things for the Hornets ..

Strange year for the MVP. No absolute standout players

You can make a case for Kobe, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and maybe one or two others

However, I will say that whoever wins it will be a way better MVP than Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki
If you can make a case for these, you could make a case for Nash winning a third. His numbers are slightly better than his MVP years.

I think you can really only make a case for Kobe or Paul - simple as that.

LeBron deserves third for his stats alone - even though his team is sucking the joint up right now.

Personally I give it to Paul, he plays in the toughest division I've ever seen, and leads the league in the two categories you want a PG to lead in (steals and assists) - and his turnover rate is phenomenal for a guy who gets so many assists. Not to mention he's come up in many, many big plays for the Hornets this year on route to taking out the Western Conference's best record.

The only knocks I have on Kobe is that he hasn't done quite as much for his team as CP3 has done for New Orleans. Kobe's had another terrific season, but it isn't the best in the league this year imo.

they do? source?

fwiw i thought the lakers with the triangle offence would be slow, but then again there are times LA just ramp up the offensive output.

Paul has more assists thus probably handles the ball more therefore has ample opportunity to up his stats.

LA also has more assists than NO.

LA scores more than NO

Paul is faster and runs quicker

Kobe is taller and fatter and slower

Kobe wears two numbers on his jersey = heavier

Kobe shoots more and deals with double teams and the like. he gets more tired.

I like chris paul

therefore kobe wins mvp just.
Yet Kobe has more turnovers... It's typical once again that Kobe fans rally up against anyone who is a threat to Kobes MVP. Each year that Kobe has played and been considered in the MVP race, I can find you at least one player that has destroted him. This isn't enought to simply exclude him from MVP nomination.

Chris Paul is this years MVP, though I'm sure David Stern will manage to find a way to get Kobe to get it. So I wouldn't be worried.

wrong wrong wrong. all of my reasons for kobe mvp were tongue in cheek in response to MDC's claim in bold. a comment re: kobe fans reactions is like saying all miami fans are bandwagoners after the championship recently!

look at the posts and replies:

I've added in two key components that you'd overlooked. Paul scores more efficiently and turns the ball over less. The Hornets also play at a slower pace than the Lakers (meaning Paul has less time to compile his stats).

Kobe handles the ball as much as CP3 imo. But even if CP3 handles it more, that should show you his turnover rate is just ridiculously good that he can dominate the ball that much and average so few errors.

If the Hornets play at a slower pace than his turnovers should be less. Up-tempo game plan = more turnovers.

Also the best record in the Conference is getting harder to keep saying.

Paul, Kobe and Lebron are the main contenders. You cannot include KG and Williams. Deron hasn't even dominated his team that much - he gets a lot of support from Boozer.

I am currently working in our NY office and am lucky enough have watched the last two NOH games live and after watching them play I am a CP3 convert (even as a Laker fan) and hope he wins the MVP.

This guy plays the game the way its meant to be played. He is even schooling J Kidd on how its done and there is no chest thumping or over the top attitude. Currently for this team he is doing everything right. Controlling the play, distributing the ball to the right people at the right spots and when time is right scoring (mid range pull ups, drives and three pointers). It has been a long time since I have enjoyed watching a game of basketball as much as I have been whilst watching Hornets play...

Thank you CP3...

(Oh and no offence to all those Daron Williams fans but Chris Paul is head and shoulders above him this season.)

Gotta agree with the above. Im a D Will fan, but CP3 has taken it to another level of late. Was just watching Sportscenter and they said that Paul became the first player ever to have consecutive 30 point, 10 assist, 3 steal games. Also became the first player to ever have consecutive 30/10 games to start playoff career. Dude is on FIRE.

The way Hornets play at the moment makes my basketball purist heart smile...

Sam Smith wrote a nice article on how this team was put together.
http://blogs.hoopshype.com/blogs/smith/index.php

You got to give the Hornets GM some major props as he made some great calls over the last few years - Chandler (how much has he improved), Peja, Wells and Petersen.

Also I think that drafting Julian Wright last year was a very nice future move also. The only thing left to acquire is a back-up big man - maybe with their pick in 2008 draft?
