If Eddie McGuire quit as Coll Pres?

God knows where we would be had Eddie not come along but if he goes now we will be fine. His great off field work has set us up to be financially successful for some time to come. Most of or sponsorships are tied in for 5 years or so. The revenue streams are well and truly in place and humming along. On field is not as great. He appointed and retained Malthouse. Arguably MM was the right man for the job post 1999 when we were on our knees and we need guidance from a coach that had authority and could take the hits that a young and overall relatively talentless list would deliver. His efforts in list building have been deplorable given the drafting position he has had and his coaching has been questionable at best in many big games. It doesn’t appear to me that Eddie will make the move and sack MM or ease him out. Whether that is misguided faith or stubbornness I don’t know but either way it is a failing IMO and one that greatly impacts the most fundamentally important aspects of the club as it directly relates to winning premierships which after all is the point of the exercise.

Eddie has done a great job and was THE man for the times we faced. Due largely to Eddie we longer face those times and he is no longer essential to the Collingwood Football Club. I am at the point where I would be more than happy for Eddie to stay if he moves on the coach but if he doesn’t I’d be more than happy to see him move on and get someone who will move on the coach.

Unfortunately in these types of bloodless coup pre ordained transfer situations, generally the deal is not to upset the status quo. In all likelihood Pert or someone similar will take over and make no changes for at least the first year. Stability is good but not when you are mediocre which is exactly what we are on the field and within the football department as a whole. The club really needs another shake up.

My vote goes to the bloke who says we have failed on the field and will be single minded and ruthless in changing that. Forget the clubs and the competition it’s time for Collingwood to screw everyone in the pursuit of Collingwood if that is what it takes.

Spot on Mark T.

A new president will get rid of Malthouse. No question.

There is a strong rumour circulating at the minute that Collingwood is having a press conference at midday. Malthouse the topic of discussion

eddie is the sole person that should be acknowledged for teh resurection of our great club, if he leaves the pies will be worse off but i doubt anyone could **** up the club from the strong position we are in now.
he will always be lending a hand anyhow!

Maybe I'm showing my age but didn't Collingwood almost go under during the mid 80's, only to come back winning a Premiership along the way...

But yeah Eddie is the only one to ever get Collingwood on it's feet
