It looks like the AFL are saying Geelong may get a home final at GHMBA if:
a) their opponent is GWS, and
b) there is another game scheduled at the MCG

All home finals should be at KP much the same as every other side who plays finals at their home ground should they earn the right.
Won't be though.
Either accept it will be held at the ground where you host finals and bigger H and A games too, or continue to complain about something that won't change.

It might not be the preference, but while the club hosts games at the MCG either by their choice or the AFLs influence, that's where big finals will be held. If they want to host finals in Geelong, the first step is to stop hosting games at the MCG. Second step is to accept more travel, as otherwise they are the only side with a genuine home ground in Victoria.

I dont think the club reqlly wants to do that for several reasons, they have members and fans in Melbourne region and secondly, playing there means when they do play finals there at least there is familiarity. How much revenue to they lose if 40k fans get locked out of a Geelong vs Collingwood game at GMHBA? Finally, they would need to travel more so as to even it out. Otherwise every VIC club will lobby for their own boutique stadium

If Geelong get a home final against an interstate side then let it be known that I'll take a ticket off an interstate member and support that side in that final against Geelong.

Whiteley was saying if Geelong finish first, and say Richmond 4th, the final should be at kardinia.

That all well and good, but half the tickets need to be available to Richmond fans, and not just the crap ones

Anyway I just don’t get it. The historic venue for finals is at the MCG, it’s just that that’s impractical now half the teams aren’t in Victoria, and often finals don’t include vic teams at all

What ive always said
Should be biggest stadium
1) home stadium
2) home city
3) home state
4) home country

Perth stadium hosts Fremantle and west coast weeks 1-3
Adelaide oval hosts Adelaide and port Adelaide weeks 1-3
Carrara hosts Gold Coast weeks 1-2
Gabba hosts Brisbane weeks 1-3 and Gold Coast week 3
Sydney’s Showgrounds hosts gws week 1
SCG hosts Sydney weeks 1-3 and gws weeks 2-3
Kardinia park hosts Geelong weeks 1-2
Dockland host Essendon, north Melbourne, st kinda and western bulldogs week 1
MCG hosts Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton, hawthorn and Melbourne weeks 1-3, Essendon, north Melbourne st kinda and western bulldogs week 2-3, Geelong week 3 and everybody week 4

But, with the afl making it up on the fly. I hope this game is mcg. Geelong vs Eagles or Adelaide would draw 45-60. Too big for kardinia.

Then we get whining that these teams "dont get access to the MCG often enough"

Brisbane and Sydney the worst. theres a fair argument to day theyd be better supported in a melbourne final than in sydney or brisbane, given their hancestry

Geelong vs Adelaide @ MCG would be minimum 60,000 in any week of the first 3 weeks possibly more. 20,000+ Crows fans would turn up.

Given finals are based on membership nos if a final was played at GMHBA stadium, 20,000 tickets would be sold to Crows fans.

Lets say West coast finish 1st and Richmond 4th.

Do West Coast have to go to the MCG or do they rightfully get a home game in Perth?

Sure, if one of the following happens
a) The MCG is moved to Western Australa
b) West Coast is moved to Victoria
Then West Coast's home state final will be played at the MCG

Let’s hypothesise for a second and assume that Geelong finish 1st and Richmond finish 4th.

In this above scenario try explaining the following to any supporter of any legit sporting code around the world:
- 1st place team has played 9 games out of 22 regular season games at their home ground
- 4th place team has played 13 games out of 22 regular season games at their home ground, including the last 7 in a row leading into finals
- 1st place team then has to play 4th place team at 4th place team home ground in first week of finals
- If they make it, 4th place team is guaranteed to play GF at their home ground every year regardless of where they finish the season on the ladder

The response from your overseas friend would be:
- That sport is a joke
- How much money does the 4th place team pay the sport’s governing body to have such a cosy deal?

Tigers supporters - don’t shoot the messenger - facts are facts

Imagine if you can, just for a minute.......Richmond finish top, winning both of your finals, and having to play the Grand Final at Adelaide Oval.

Can you imagine it? Go on, just for a minute......think about it. How would you feel?
Unfortunately you’re giving Richmond fans ammunition. I wanted Adelaide to win, purely because I wanted the majority of Richmond fans here to EAD through their arrogance (not all are like this by the way Elton Johns Wig ). But Adelaide had a real shocker of a day, a real rotter. Compare that with WC last year who were on the back foot early and came back to win.

It really wasn’t the ground, you had a bad bad day. It was a Geelong 08 moment or a North Melbourne 98 moment. Clear favourites, you should’ve done a number on the Tigers.

The GF is at the MCG for the next 50 whatever years, even if two non-Victorian teams are playing. Consider that, and get over it. The AFL prioritise fans, not Geelong FC. Geelong want to lock out fans from seeing live finals, including their own fans! They can get ****ed IMO.

I wouldn’t worry too much. You’ve got a good record at the G this year and the G never stopped you winning finals there in 07, 09, 11.

07 - Beat Collingwood in PF at their home
09 - Beat Collingwood in PF at their home
11 - Beat Hawthorn in QF at their home. Beat Collingwood in GF at their home.

While its not a perfect system, at least Geelong had 2 home games at the MCG this year.

in 2015 the Bulldogs had to host Adelaide at the MCG despite not playing a single home game there all year.

And how great would it be with a stadium half full of crows fans in geelong? Would be a spectacle, not just another mcg game.

Until Optus was built, WC were locking their own fans out of live finals. They probably still are even with increased capacity at Optus. Should they get f’ed?
