Meltdown If Geelong were given home finals would they have won the 14, 16, 17 & 19 flags comfortably

Haha, sure mate.

Dominating for 16 years? You won 3 flags in 60 years. Those 3 flags are condensed in to one 5 year window.

We've actually made finals more often than you in the AFL era.

Also have more flags. And did I say we beat you in 2 Grand Finals? It's delicious to think we kept your best player from ever winning a flag.

We built everything we have from the ground up. 32 years and we have 4 flags, regular finals appearances, 106 million bucks in assets (more than double the next closest Hawthorn) and over 90 0000 members queuing up to fill our brand new 1.8 billion dollar stadium. Not to mention our 4 million dollar licence fee kept clubs like yours open when the VFL was on the brink of collapse. Must have stung to be the ones to hand us our first two premiership cups.

There was no heavily backed state flag when we beat you in 1992 & 1994. West Coast has never been a state team. In fact we had many restrictions placed on us during our formative years such as smaller senior list, unable to recruit more than 5 players from Victorian clubs as part of our inaugural team, not being allowed to host finals beyond week 1 of finals series due to MCC agreement.

I also love the coke heads that destroyed your team from 50 points down in the 3rd quarter on your home turf. I don't even know what a "bye flag" is. Must be something that they say down in Geelong to make themselves feel better in between premiership droughts.

2007-2011 was a great team built on the back of a couple of father son picks. Outside of that it has been very slim picking for the cats. Now that we took one of your best players I don't see you ending the drought anytime soon. Your window got slammed shut when Caitlin Kelly said "adios".

See you when you are back in contention in 2023

Not points without merit but your ‘era’ has been two flags in a short time, a dozen years without, and another dozen years without. So nitpicking against one of the only two other teams who have rivalled you for consistency and made 6 grand finals in the same period is a stretch

I actually think that there is a rational conversation to be had about how different teams have distinct advantages and disadvantages with fixturing and home grounds. But this thread is absurd.

Geelong did not dominate the AFL for 16 years. They had a great team and were able to snare 3 flags in a 5 year window. Outside of that, Geelong has been an extremely consistent team that regularly made finals, however got beaten by a better team each year.
Cheat ground catch 22, win the June Premiership each year, make the finals then fail, or miss the finals regularly but be better opposition when you do make them.

Thats why WA decided to make Optus similar in size to the G, at the risk of losing more home and away games you gain the ability to play better at the G.

The logical answer to tbe question is NO. They did have one home final at Moorabool Street Reserve in 2013 against Freo & could not get the job done. There is nothing to suggest that they would have beaten anyone else. They haven't been good enough since 2011 full stop.

For all the talk about the cheat ground, it’s been proven statistically in another thread that under Scott our record away from KP is something like 85-60 (can’t remember the exact figure).

So the ground thing can be brought up all you like, it’s not really the issue

If Geelong were given home finals would they have won the 14, 16, 17 & 19 flags comfortably

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss[es];
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your [or our] turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on [to it] when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count [on you,] with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

choking is having a 20 point lead at half time and watching it disappear before 3/4 time :thumbsu:
not when the team you're up against is the raging favourite. Two years in a row the Tigers were raging favourites in a prelim but they choked the first try. Could have had a 3peat if not for the Pies choke tbh

I am convinced that 100% they would have won at least 3 of the above 4 flags. Let’s look at it more forensically however:

2014:

Geelong v North Melbourne. Would have been an absolute walk in the park for the cats as north were the 7th- 8th best side in it that year and we had smashed them convincingly throughout the year. Instead we are forced to play in their home city and they get over the line in a close one. Believe we would have gone on to belt Sydney and then had another crack against the hawks in the GF. Prognosis: 50% likelihood.

2016:
Qualifying final. Won by a kick against he hawks. Should have been a much easier game down at Kardinia. Prelim final: here is where we were really robbed. Had won 7 of 8 home games throughout the season and would have started unbackable favourites in this match. Absolutely no doubt in my mind we win this game and go on to demolish the dogs.

2017:
Had comprehensively smashed out direct opponent at Simmonds stadium a couple of weeks before finals and had a number of elite players returning to the side. Instead we play the side that finished 3rd in their cheat ground in front of their fans who bought our tickets in the ballot and with their home town umpiring decisions. Absolutely 100% certain if the game was at gmhba we win. Would go on to demolish our bunnies the giants and crows. 100% certainty

2019
Finished top and had to play 4th on their cheat ground then had to back it up with away game against the eagles and an away game against the 3rd placed side also in their cheat ground. Lost both our qualifying and prelim by a bees dick with some dodgy decisions and biased crowds. With an even run at it we would have been absolute morals to make the GF and belt up on the bye that was GWS in the grand final.

Overall I think it is safe to say at least 3 more flags would be in the coffers (probably 4) if the afl sorted out inequality of making us play away from home in finals
Why don't we just move all your games to the MCG. Give your supporters free Myki cards.

The ingratitude of this thread is nearly unbelievable, but I’ve read it so it’s there. So a Geelong fan with much recent success is whinging about could’ve/should’ve/would’ve’s. Ask a StKilda fan about this? Or Demons or Dockers etc. Be grateful for that era, and stop whinging and especially about something that has never happened(all these home finals) in 150 years. It’s still hopefully the people’s game, where as many people as possible get to attend. And hopefully opportunities for all clubs to win a Grand Final roughly once a generation.
Geelong' regular good performance during seasons is a blessing and a curse. They haven't bottomed out, they rarely miss finals. Having the coach they do doesn't help

It's a choke when you have the lead and blow it. When did we have the lead against Collingwood?

Not surprised you know all about losing finals after your 3peat loss record in week 1 of finals :drunk: :thumbsu:

Richmond were the raging favourites. To suggest Geelong choked would be an admission that Geelong is the better team.

If we got 11 home games instead of 7-9 we would also finish higher on the ladder and earn even more home finals.

Geelong faces world sports greatest injustice. Even the pakistan cricket team has it better.

Its about time other teams supporters recognise this as it puts a huge asterik over results. Needs to be fixed ASAP. And a public apology from the league.

So using your non-sequitor argument, if we were favorites before the game you would have been favorites at half-time and appropriately choked :thumbsu:
So you're saying Geelong is actually a better team than Richmond then?
