If Harley Reid is worth up to $2m per year... what are these guys worth?

I wouldn't be too concerned. He's not directing his petulance towards teammates a la JHF at North. Copping the number one tag in your second year when you're not quite fit enough to run out games properly (yes he's not in ideal physical condition) would be frustrating
He cops the #1 tag you say?

When he played Collingwood a few weeks ago, we didn't even bother putting a run with player on him.

I don't watch the kid much, but because we were playing them, I took some interest because of all the hype, he was free to do what he liked yet did F&^%$# all.

If that's what he produces, he isn't even worth half.

Cool story bro, 1st vs 18th at home and you don't tag- stop the presses!

not really..That was my point about people not understanding the salary cap..Dusty was sharing it with a lot of other premiership team mates..West coast have to pay 95% (to a yet again increasing cap) to who exactly ?
Oscar Allen apparently wont be there, McGovern was forced to retire ?

Reid can have some, sure, but otherwise chase a effing free agent or something. The list is pox!

It may be recency bias but there's plenty of long term contracts that either player or clubs regret. Thinking Oliver, Petracca, Grundy, Treloar etc.

Not sure why either party wants to go longer than 5 years.

Contracts don't mean anything except guaranteed income for players.

The current crop of players coming through didn't play in the era where contracts were treated as being a set of obligations for each party. They treat contracts the way NBA players do, except that contract values being public and being traded against your will are off the table. It's all about securing the bag and then if you get injured or can't get a kick or decide you want to go somewhere else then it's all someone else's problem. It's what happens when you grow up watching LeBron, KD, James Harden, Ben Simmons etc. instead of Jordan, Magic and Bird. Players wanting to team up and chase success and sooking it up and sitting out when they don't get their own way. Should be mandatory for all draftees to watch The Last Dance.

An 11 year contract for Harley Reid has got nothing to do with playing for 11 years at West Coast, it's about locking in $20m+ in guaranteed earnings. Which is a joke because the way the amateur AFL system works he could sign for $1m then as soon as someone else offers $2m just request a trade and get a pay rise. It's a terrible, terrible system.

You said he receives the #1 tag, well he didn't against us and he did F^%$# all.

If that's worth $2 mill a year, then there are a hell of a lot of players in the league worth way more.
Daicos did **** all against Melbourne, why's he held in such high regard again?

Is this thread about Daicos?
Does Daicos earn $2 mill a year?
He could if he decided to shop himself around.

In regards to Harley, it's simply a market that benefits him currently.

Blame the clubs all frothing over him and chasing him constantly with big money offers.

I don't give a crap if they pay him $2 mill a year ( as long as Collingwood don't) he IMO is not even worth half that from what i've seen of him.

How come so many clubs are offering him that though? Its not just a Eagles thing here at all.... Many other clubs throwing similar contracts at him.

I know, it's gone crazy all of a sudden, TDK worth 1.7 mill? no way.

We found out the hard way paying overs for Grundy.
Not even close to comparable. If we dont like Reids contract in 2028 we will have clubs lining up to take it with huge draft pick offers. Only way that wont happen is if he gets bad injury issues but them the risks you take with any big deal. Harry Perryman included

I don't think Collingwood generally tag, in your last 6 weeks NW-M had 35, Rowell 32 with 12 clearances and 2 goals and Serong with 37 and a goal. Not saying that's the wrong strategy, you're top of the ladder for a reason but tagging isn't generally a thing for the Pies

That's part of the point, you said he is the #1 tag, i'm saying he wasn't tagged v Collingwood, so maybe he does get tagged sometimes, but against us it didn't matter he was crap anyway.
I have looked at his stats, as I don't watch the kid play very much, his stats don't jump out at you either, so not sure why he even gets a tag to be truthful.

If free agency rules changes from 8 years to down to 6 years or even 5 years, I agree about stricter contracts.

I say 6 even a 5 year contract is long enough.

I can understand why struggling sides want to keep certain players if they are aged 21 to 25, you know they are one of the better players so keep them on long term deals.

You don't have any players aged 30 or 31 or older on 4 or 5 year deals.

NBA is good. Max contract is one player on 25 percent of the salary cap for 4 or 5 years.

At least it's original given I am the one who created that photo in the first place.

BJ goes around posting crap unrelated to the topic at hand.
It's as if he thinks he has a duty of care to stand up for the player in question.

And no, Harley Reid is not worth 2 million per year. Even if he broke out to be the best midfielder in the game, $1.5 max.

Calls people names.

Accuses others of trolling.

Self-awareness clearly not a thing for you it seems.

It might be more productive if you limited your comments to players you have watched a bit more of in that case.

I've found it helps inform the discussion.

Statistically Reid is a better second year player than either Judd or Ben Cousins was .
Which is pretty good considering he is in a much poorer team then they were and gets a lot more negating attention then they did at that time.
Hang on a sec, Judd kicked 5 goals against Brisbane playing as a midfielder in his second year.
