I've been a paid up member of Carlton since 1986 but if Michael Mansfield is retained after Cranage, Hotton, O'Keefe & Smith are let go, I (& my daughter) will not be renewing for 2003!!

I'm doing my own version of a "KB" or "Schimma"

Looks like you go then.

Its called having one year left on his contract and no other club as half dumb as Carlton who wants the hack.

Dont worry you wont miss much next year by not following Carlton. Thats a cert.

Just lettin you know that Carlton has told Mansfield he is not a required player in 2003, only one problem is that mansfield has more time left on his contract and they are in a bit of a dispute

Axed Mansfield takes on Blues
By Peter Hanlon
September 28 2002

The Carlton clean-out has claimed another victim, with Michael Mansfield unwanted by the Blues but unable to reach an amicable settlement, denying the dual All-Australian a chance to say farewell at today's grand final parade of retiring players.

Mansfield has a year to run on the four-year contract he signed after being dumped by Geelong at the end of 1999, but it is believed he is not prepared to accept the reduced payout offered by the Blues.

Mansfield, who played 16 games this season for a career total of 235, spoke last week to new coach Denis Pagan, who had received a match committee recommendation that the two-time grand finalist would struggle for a senior berth in 2003.

Mansfield is believed to have accepted the decision, but is disappointed that the contractual dispute has prevented him from bowing out in a manner befitting a player with 13 AFL seasons behind him.

At 31, he is unlikely to attract interest if he tries to play on via the draft, but could yet remain at Carlton if agreement cannot be reached.

Mansfield's manager, Damien Smith, last night refused to comment on the dispute, and Carlton officials did not return calls from The Age.

The Western Bulldogs, meanwhile, will announce their new senior coach within days, assistant coach Peter Rohde and favourite son Brian Royal still the frontrunners.

At the Bulldogs' grand final eve lunch yesterday, club president David Smorgon said the successful applicant's task would be to take the club "back into the finals" next season.

The duo have been considered among the favourites for the position almost since the day Terry Wallace quit on the eve of the season's final round. The Bulldogs could announce their new coach as early as Monday.

After a poor start to the season, the club finished six points out of the finals.

"We underachieved for 2002," Smorgon said.

He said the club had faced several major distractions during the year, from the protracted insurance battle with the AFL over its captain Chris Grant and his neck condition, to management changes, sponsorship concerns and the "sudden departure of our senior coach".

MANSFIELD

I am a Carlton member, and have been so since 1994

If Mansfield does not go, i will re-sign, however, if he does not go next year, and next year he gets in the way of youth then....

fu*k him!

Now Ang has taken his place on the chopping block

Gone:
Hotton
Smith
Cranage
Okeffe
Chritou
Pickering
Gallagher

Still there: (under the pump)
Mansfield
Franchina
Freeborn
Merrington
Prendagast
Plunkett
Fletcher
Manton
Doering

A bit critical of your comments. Because of ONE player you'll stop helping out a team you've loved for ages. Perhaps express your opinions in another form instead of ditching your membership. I don't blame your feelings though - i wouldn't want him on my side either.

everyday is one step closer to Mansfield playing another season.

Carlton really are clearing out the list. Lots of kids next year. Two spoons in a row?

What a shocking list.

Add Kouta and Allan (for injury reasons), and Ratten and Bradley who are getting too old, and Whitnall who is the only AFL player in history to spend every preseason at the fat farm, and their financial and political troubles, and its easy to see why they are called a rabble.

Well, we did have the same list last year (with the exception of SOS and McKernan), and we finished 5th.

Here, I'll write down a list of the players we MUST keep (ones that offer) and a few that might get the chop, but can contribute:

Ratten
McKay
Koutoufides
Livingston
Thornton
Davies
Campbell
Beaumont
Murphy (pending)
Camporaeloe
Hulme
Whitnall
Lappin
Houlihan (pending)
Wiggins
Sporn
Manton
Allan (pending)
Bradley (might retire)
Waite
Beasy
Merrington (pending - depends on Allan)

A mix of young and old. The rest that I haven't mentioned must either be traded or de-listed. We'll just wait next year and see if the young can improve, or the experienced players can get form.
