You are so entwined in your own opinion, you would not know which way is up. Living with covid is real, keep flicking through other peoples views for any that suit your spin & dream of .... real world are the front line workers & they live with covid every day, real world Les, try it.
Man, social media has done and facilitated some really cool stuff.
But reading this thread, it's genuinely concerning to see the extent that it manipulates people.
This thread and the conspiracy theories being pushed, are clear evidence that the algorithms are wirking precisely as intended!

True but that is more a fault of our education system in not teaching critical thinking. A major reason why these theories get so much traction in America is that their basic education system is very poor. The college education system is quite good though so you get this big disparity between a group who understand science and logic and a group who think a random blog has as much credibility as a scientific paper.

Whats the emergency? A virus with a better than 99% survival right rate than only kills the elderly. Better crash the economy, lock people in their homes and create a suicide epidemic.

BOJOs govt have used the actual term whack a mole. I'm told the truth is while they are at pains to be seen to be doing something, they aren't in practice
Of course. The problem needs lots of accommodation which can be provisioned and quickly and cheaply disposed of

This is true, but I am thinking that someone with any sense is going to be hard to convince that they should pay a fee to spend two weeks on a cruise ship trying to avoid COVID.

There’s nothing wrong with having different opinions and discussing them freely, it’s the name calling, circular arguing and constantly brow beating your opinions onto other people if you don’t agree with them. Back and forth discussion is important, fighting and spamming things off the internet is just counter productive. Just report abuse and scroll past anything that you can’t discuss reasonably and the thread is good

Economically, even if it doesn't kill you, if it's enough to keep you home from work then the economy is going to hit hard by it anyway.

But social media algorithms are designed to maintain your attention. They do that by spamming you with s**t that is designed to release dopamine.
Likes, tags, views, comments, notifications etc. are all specifically aimed at getting you hooked. Meanwhile, you get spammed with ads which are targeted directly at you at certain times about certain things that the algorithm knows will interest you.
The other human trait they prey on, is the need to be validated. That's why people that look at posts by friends or click on articles about how the lockdown is s**t, get spammed relentlessly with more and more posts, articles, ads, stories etc. that relate to the topic and opinion that the lockdown is s**t. It becomes the only side of the story they're exposed to.
It's why the conspiracy theorists are all clumped together.
It's why those that think COVID is a scam find so much information supporting their view, and why thry think everyone else is so dumb for not seeing it! It's like sitting in the cheer squad at the footy.
The same is true for those on the other side of the COVID debate.
It's exactly how social media and big tech is designed to work.
I think you and Gary are both on the meth. Have you watched the news and seen what was happening overseas? My uncle passed away from covid and was only 60. Hardly elderly
Its the same as the people claiming "its no worse than the flu" despite higher case and death numbers, and despite countries completely locking down for periods of time.
