Possibly one of the best finals players ever if not the goat in that area, he's not the goat overall but should be easily in this team if you remove Richmond bias, a Brownlow and 3 Norm Smiths in 3 flag years is something no one else has achieved in the game and his 2017 season is right up there with the best ever.

If this team were to make the finals, you’d want him there, sadly it’s based on an entire career, H & A etc …

no dice

Williams is the most over rated player of all time - yes he played a great 95 GF

I probably watched 35 games of his approx at the SCG - living in Syd - how did he go in 86 and 87 in those big finals when the Swans went out in straight sets both years - didnt get a kick

What about 94 for Carlton in that upset finals loss to Geel at Waverly - Pickering put the absolute cleaners through him - Williams had an appalling record at Waverly because he was as slow as treacle

Kevin Bartlett - Bernie Quinlan - Barry Davis - Nathan Buckley - genuine superstars with pace - they are the length of the Randwick straight better footballers than Greg Williams - and as i said i did watch him live in about 35-40 games live at the SCG - so im qualified to give my opinion

It is an absolute myth that Williams is a great player - i wouldnt have him in the best 100 ever - no way
The best 100 ???? Now you are being ridiculous

So would it be for this century or just greatest team ever?

Buddy will not make the greatest team ever as good as he is, unless they do an AA and have him playing full back or something ridiculous, before Buddy gets in you need to fit in Lockett.

Arguably the best HFF ever if you deem him so.

He’s not in the best dozen or so KPP

Purely due to non football issues.

Take the TOC with a grain of salt, it was headed by Ian Collins who made sure the blues were over represented.
Should have been named HFF instead of Jezza.
Perhaps he was nominated for several positions and thus failed to be No 1 in any position.

On closer look it seems even Blight is unlucky. Seems to have a better case than Jezza.

If they were to all lace up the boots, basically everyone out, repick the team from about 2000 onwards.

I was watching the 73 grand final the other day, footy back then was a *in embarrassment compared to today.

Looks like divvy 4 amateurs.

Sure they were the best of their time, but times have moved on.

Maybe, I don’t think it was as it was made in 1996 before the Horan stuff. I think it’s the no flag. But who knows, I would’ve put him on the field.

I put him at HFF for my best ever forwards. There is not a HBF in history who had the height, speed and strength to stop him.

Chris Mew comes closest. Probably with Fletcher. But I dont think you put them on a GOAT team just because of Buddy.

Not sure if you are serious on dusty home and away record

Dusty averages more brownlow votes per game than gaj, and last time I checked it was a home and away award .

The way dusty is considered a finals player only and his home away record is honored is borderline disrespectful and defamatory and lazy

Silly take

Only 3 changes imo

GAJ > for Williams
Carey > Hart
Plugger > Coleman

Don't think Martin, Buddy or Judd get in over existing TOC picks (unless we start picking players out of position, which is always a risk)

GAJ and Dusty would be in. Buddy just misses out due to the strength of key forwards.

Carey and Lockett are the two who were mid career that would be considered. Carey more likely than plugger though.

I agree with your Buddy and Dusty assessments. For team balance I put Dusty on the field as the HF as that’s his actual role. Thus Buddy had to go on the bench for me.

Interestingly neither Lockett or Coventry got in the team (1st and 2nd all time goal kickers) and John Coleman did despite playing only 98 games. They must have prioritised goal average over total goals, I’d personally have the former 2 over Coleman. I don’t have Coleman in my team at all.

My rejig of the forward line would be:

Dusty, Carey, GAS
Lethal, Lockett, Bunton

Hart and Buddy are the two forwards on the bench.

Also let’s be honest. How crucial was Martin to the tigers winning the GF in 2019? Zero. Going by the NS metric, it means that Martin’s game in 2019 is held in higher regard than say Voss’ game in 2002…That is absolutely ridiculous. It pains me to say but Voss willed his team to victory in a game where the margin was never double digits at any point.

Martin in the greatest team of all time, let alone on the field...

o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Edit: at the expense of John Coleman.

Now we know you're just taking the p1ss!

98 games isn’t enough. That’s why. Is that enough for you?

They aren’t competent for the same spot either. Don’t see the problem.
