I really don't understand how having an academy for the vfl/afl aligned clubs can do anything other then help get as much talent as possible into the game, rather then just the afl sponsored darlings.
It would also help keep the kids who don't get drafted at 18 in the system at vfl and development level who have to give it up to get work, go to uni etc. This is turn would increase the quality of the vfl over time as well, even if they don't make it to afl level - how can this inept afl commission not see this?
So I wanted a place where the Box Hill watchers can post about players from Box Hill and the development squad that would, or who they'd like to see, be picked up by Hawthorn and put into our Box Hill academy so we get first dibs on them at the draft, if we were allowed a bloody academy like the afl $wans. Age should also not be a factor for this type of set up, IMO.
As for how it would work, the same as free agency, the boys who didn't get drafted can pick whichever vfl club they like, so the vfl clubs have to be able to sell themselves as the place to be for a chance at the afl and it would allow the boys to pick the club they support in the afl as well. (just an idea?)
So, if we had an academy which players from Box Hill would people like us to have first dibs on?
I'll start with Sam Collins, who I believe with the right weights, and development would make the grade.
Brandon Wood, would he be able to improve his tank and pace at an academy?
Ryley Monkhorst - Just because of his hair (unless he's changed it since I saw him)
I never get to see the development squad, so I don't know how any of those boys are tracking, any info would be great from the people who see them regularly, HH don't be shy??
Jack Codd-Miller - wondering if he has shown any flashes of the promise we had hoped for when we put him on a scholarship, esp now he has grown up wards a bit.
