If you could change an AFL team's nickname

I always thought Richmond's nickname was a bit odd. I know Tigers is a great name - but Tigers are orange and black, not yellow. I know they used to be called the Wasps (which is a bit pathetic).

It's a shame they couldn't be called the Cockatoos (Yeah, yeah. we know all the jokes....)

Without a a second thought, I would change Hawthorn from the 'Hawks' to the '******s'.

Edit: The censored word isn't that bad. Just starts with 'W' and rhymes with 'tankers'.
The Hawthorn Wall-Anchors?

I guess they need a lot of them to hold those premiership photos, but not sure.......

If it's an animal, and it aint Australian - change it.
if it's a domesticated animal that may go feral - change it.
if it's intangible - change it.
if it's mechanical - change it.
if it's a vocation - change it.
if it's a mythological creature - change it.
if it's a celestial body that would burn you to a cinder if ever embraced - change it.
if it's fauna unique to this land - well done.
if it's a human that has transcended to a spiritual being - perfect.
Guess that rules out St Kilda then?

Well, I know Port used to wear magenta and used to have marine-related nicknames, such as the cockledivers, so how about the Seamen?

It's something tangible, unlike Power, and has historical relevance. It's got so much upside and I can't possibly see any negatives at all with this.

The Port and Brisbane merger that I never realised was needed so bad until now.

Brisbane Bears - i miss the Bears nickname despite the the inaccurate connection with Aussie Koalas, although there is nothing wrong with "Lions" either
Carlton Royals - something more tangible than "Blues", a nod to mother country royalty
Essendon Jets - I don't feel too strongly against "Bombers", but I know it can be taken out of context in a negative manner by the PC crowd
Fremantle Sharks - nod to the WAFL side, more intimidating than "Dockers", no metaphoric stigma of an anchor weighing down the club
Gold Coast Giants - embrace the letter 'G'
West Sydney Wolves - embrace the letter 'W'
Melbourne Devils - "Devils" seems more commonly used than "Demons"
Port Adelaide Thunder - not much better than "Power" but at least its more specific, can play Thunderstruck by AC/DC before games
Sydney Bloods - historically accurate and sounds way more bad ass than "Swans"
Trust me. They have had a much less politically correct name than their current one.

not sure if i'm more bemused by your understanding of what a saint is, or by your inability to read more than six lines of text?

GWS should just be called Western Sydney, the greater part is something that was come up in an AFL board room and sounds stupid. Now everyone has to refer to them as an acronym.
The thing is it's rarely ever said in full anyway - they are always referred to as just GWS! Don't even think about the word "Greater".
