Barrie Robran 6"3 would be a midfielder now, but he was a midfielder in the 70's who could play centre half forward too. Kick, Run, kick goals, high Marks he could do everything. He'd pick up more Brownlows than 2x Abletts, Carey and Leigh Mathews combined.

There’s only one possible answer to this …John Coleman with no knee injury.

Guaranteed 5 goals a game on average.

I am not saying you are wrong but the problem with Coleman is he is 185cm so he would have to play as a medium forward rather than as a KPF. He would obviously still be extremely good in 2023 but would he be as dominant as he was given he is probably 10cm too short?

With his leap and agility? Yes.

Only one of those 4 players mentioned won a Brownlow.

Yeah but he could leap like an Olympic high jumper and take the mark at 10 ft up with a ride on a luckless defender.
Supreme ground ball gathering skills too and he could run like a 20 year old Franklin.

Michael Voss.
Excellent player and exceptional leader.

Should be in GOAT conversations I think.
Yep. The most all round A grade player in the modern era ..as in , 1980 onwards.

A relentless competitor with mild psychopathic tendencies who was the very definition of “ puts body on the line”. And one of those 5% who are so good on each foot you couldn’t tell their natural kicking side.

Acker wasn’t far behind him either. Black with them too.

3 freaks

And in the modern world (or even 1990s) of knee surgeries could have continued playing at elite level.
It’s an absolute tragedy the both of them with those knees.

Just boggles the mind why the footy gods picked them to miss so much footy in their prime age.

Peter Hudson got more than 5 goals a game even after his ACL :)

Half his goals out the back scooping up the loose ball.
Coleman was a contested marking phenomenon.

A relative of mine who played for Carlton often spoke of him. Literally leaped over the top of shorter sized defenders.
Also a tough nut who copped some brutal hits by the opposition.

Geelong supporter salty over a Hawthorn player.

How original.

Hudson averaged 6 marks a game in an era where defenders would punch you in the back of the head every time you went for the ball.

His best effort was 17 marks for 13 goals.

Nah not salty. Go talk to guys who played against Hudson and they don't rate him as the best.

Newsflash, all forwards copped a punch to the back of the head back in those days. Nothing new there.

Who didnt rate Hudson ?

Did they object when he was made a legend?

Probably says a bit about how shit they were at football if he was an average player yet routinely kicked 6 or 8 goals on them.
