If you could draft one player from the 21st century who would you pick?

What 21st century player would you draft to your team?

So this is similar to the best player of the 21st century idea, in this scenario imagine you are lining up every player who played most of their career in the 21st century and this player is suddenly 18 years old, and you can draft them to your team and keep them in your team for the entirety of their career, knowing the players they would become over the course of their career.

Now I am going to try and create a poll including all the major players, so sorry in advance if I forget someone important.

Also I have a general criteria for being in the poll.

For players who have either ended their career or nearing the end they need to have 4 All Australians, but I have also included players who are only part way through their career, and in those cases I had a minimum of 2 All Australians (Daicos, Gulden and Butters).

I also did a poll for individual players positions last year so since the poll was limited in terms of numbers of players I could include if a player received either no votes or almost no votes in those polls and I needed to find room for the younger players I cut them.

So who do you pick to be drafted to your team as an 18 year old?

Also importantly you only get one vote, and that vote is public.

Bias, but pre-groin injury Judd with that burst of acceleration was just so damaging.

Eagles midfield is still the line that needs the most bolstering. Would also form a handy partnership with Harley

He may or may not be the best player, but right now for the Lions I cant go past Franklin (and after that I would go one of Hawkins, Cameron, Lloyd or another key forward).

There may be better mid options but the need for a top line key forward is just too critical

If you're including pre-2000 draftee Scarlett RUNVS then Enright has to be there too. The only defender of his time better than Scarlett.

Missed him, sorry for that.

For any player I have not included in the poll that you would draft just say so on the thread and I will include them in any lists of the most selected players.

I think Chris Johnson was better than Enright, ans Scarlett better than both. That's said with a strong dislike of Scarlett and admiration for the other two.

Port has many needs but I went for a full back (in Scarlett) given BZT is down, Aliir is ageing and ratugolea doesn't give confidence

Goodes might have been a good choice for Port as well as he can play any position around the ground with mobility right up to retirement

I'd pick Gov again. Despite all hes done he's still severely underrated by the general footy world, i have no doubt he'd have had 7 or 8 AAs by now if not for injuries.

Would shore up the defence for another 15 years.

Bahaha … so you’ve not asked for the best player of the 21st century as that poll has been done. You’ve asked for which player of the 21st century you’d draft if given a choice…

Why don’t you just create a poll asking which players of the 21st century you’d choose without neck tattoos and see where Martin ranks..

You are protesting way way way too much RunMan ….it’s getting embarrassing 🤣🤣

Didn't realise I was protesting anything.

Considering how long it took GAJ to his his prime as a mid, I'd probably have to go with Franklin. Having him paired with Cameron and the rest of our forward line, would be straight up nuts - and would be a very smooth transition from Hawkins.

Alas, not to be, haha.

Martin. No one won more with less help.
Huh? Absolutely lethal player that justified it but the entire team worked defensively so he could run around without defending. Certainly not many stars around him, but never has there been a team more designed to support one player.

Dusty..big game players don't just grow on trees, and he did it time and time again.
Close second would be GAJ.. was a privilege to watch him play the game

From a Hawks POV, I don’t see a need for another key defender so it would be a midfielder or a key forward.

Ablett or Judd would be my pick, maybe even someone like Hodge/Burgoyne (Hawks bias) could play anywhere. Burgoyne without any injuries as the midfielder he was at Port and the versatility at Hawthorn would be such a good addition.

Realistically tho it would be a dominant mid to join the group.

Judd, Newcombe, Day and Meek as a midfield would be quite ridiculous, as would with Ablett but Judds pace and damage was scintillating.

Or you could go for a key forward which would be pretty obvious I feel like but thought I’d mention the others.

Buddy, Lewis and Dear thanks.

Everyone takes 1,066 goals and it is not close.

How is everyone automatically taking that? He went to a team who had just won a flag and spent basically half his career there and they didn’t win another one with him. Yes of course he is in the discussion and everyone would consider him but ‘not even close’ is a stupid exaggeration.

Agree in the sense that it should be a race between two players.

Its either Buddy or GAJ.

One could maybe make an argument for Judd (sans injury), Goodes (versatility and longevity) or N.Daicos (best of the choices who are still early-career).
Or if your team is bereft of leadership, a Voss/Hodge/Selwood type.
