Own any 3yo horse who has raced in Australia among the current crop, who would it be? I say this as many media outlets have looked back on the spring carnival in the past day or two, and many have been spruiking the performances of Efficient and Miss Finland.
However, those who were watching before the carnival started would have remembered Miss Finland beating a colt by the name of Haradasun...but they would also most likely remember Nash Rawiller butchering Haradasun, who to me, would beat Miss Finland 8 times out of 10.
Of course other notable mentions may come out of the form earlier in the spring in the races leading up to the feature 3yo Group 1, the Caulfield Guineas, particularly Wonderful World in the Guineas, and the Court Command domination in Sydney, winning The Golden Rose(Group 1) as the highlight. These two in particular appeared to be the best of that group, who notably contained Snort, The One, Danever and Anamato, who all contested the Flemington carnival with limited success.
Another horse who finished behind Court Command was Gold Edition. Touted to burn out after a marathon 2yo program and a limited spell, Gold Edition went to Flemington under a question mark after inconsistent performances in Sydney. She then went on to crush Melbourne's best 3yo sprinters by 4 lengths, and repeated the dosage five days later with a 7 length win that left all who saw the performance amazed.
Beaten by Gold Edition was the Danny O'Brien trained Splashing Out, recording three from three before finishing second in the Ascot Vale and
fourth in The Age Classic, in her first attempt at WFA conditions to complete an impressive first preparation.
And what to make of the Lee Freedman trained Here De Angels, who in her last of her three unbeaten starts, crushed her rivals over 1200, most notably Sirmione and Mudzaher. It would be wrong to say that she would have beaten Gold Edition, but I would have liked to see her go on this spring.
Of course there are probably others who I have failed to mention (Mearas and Tuesday Joy out of the Spring Champion come to mind as I type) but I'll let you guys point those out, I'm done typing now.
