Why Munich? I was there in April. Not overly impressed. If I were moving to Germany it would somewhere like Cologne or Hanover.

My wife had family in Munich so they took us to a few cool local areas the tourists wouldnt normally go to. Maybe that was why

I lived in Sweden and Switzerland for 13 years. I would live in neither. Horrible weather and food. No thanks. Switzerland is just a police state, i got fined 3 times for dumping organic waste in the wrong garbage bag (yellow bag) in the canton or Aargau. When you buy the waste bags, you need your ID card, so that they can track you...go figure. .While this is different from Canton to canton, its more or less the same everywhere.

I wouldn't mind living in China, my company headquarter been just moved there and we have factories there. Life is good, specially in Southern China (Shenzen), which is now full of Europeans and Americans all of a sudden.

Liked the first bit of the post but then fell off my chair on the second.

You do understand that china is literally a police state? And then ofcourse there is all of the pollution.

Assuming $ is no issue, and
Not a heat lover, so--

1. Netherlands.
The Dutch are generally fluent in English, are intelligent, have a decent health system, love their sports, and it's incredibly accessible to -warmer places like Italy, Spain, - and "cultural" places like UK and France.
2. New Zealand, South or North Islands.
Queenstown is like the most perfect place in the world from my pov, but have not been there in winter. Could easily spend some winter time up North in Rotorua where it really doesn't get extremely cold, or further north in the Bay Of Islands.
Anyone who has not visited there is missing out. Geographically stunning, and our $ is good value there.
3. USA. Surely there must be somewhere there that is utopic.

Canada - never been but heard it's a good lifestyle.
USA - Many advantages like language, enormous sport culture which I love, plenty to see and do with so many states, can travel based on the weather, would be right up there.
Japan - Love the food, the people, the culture, the respect and how everything just works. Beautiful visually too.
NZ - Possibily as close as you'll get to the Aussies, our neighbours and great people.
Spain - Best weather probably of the European countries, and obviously so many beautiful places. Great food and party culture, although the language barrier would take a while to overcome.
Netherlands - land of the chilled out, has the beauty of European countries.
Scandenavia - Amazing quality of living, but I'm not sure I could do the winter in any of the countries, still would consider.

1. Canada
2. New Zealand
3. Singapore
4. The UK

I wouldn't choose any of these places if I won 100 mil, but in terms of what I mentioned above they make the most sense.

Unless you have family, language or business connections in other countries there's no point.

My ex neighbour went to Japan as a caddy, learnt the language, became an English teacher
Came back to Australia as a Japanese tour guide and then returned an worked as an interpreter in Japan and is now a Japanese teacher in Australia
This is over 20 years

Ive met Australians running bars and Hotels in Nam who also grew lettuces there commercially for McDonalds previously. been there for decades married locals eventually

True but while not on holiday you need to add an option for location and the lifestyle people want and where they live. Just as living in the outback/ FNQ and the suburbs of a metro city are different so to other places

Lets say for whatever reason Australia is destroyed and all current inhabitants now have to choose another country in which to continue living...where would you chose. Try not to take pragmatism into account (ie- an EU country just because then you have free roam around the EU). Pick the country on the country itself and where you feel you´d best fit in, or live the best life possible or maybe a place that has fascinated and intrigued you enough that you would start a life there.

Id probably go with Denmark, with Canada 2nd.

Canada for sure but only Vancouver region. The rest of Canada is way , way too cold for me.

New Zealand would be second. Never been to New Zealand though but just guess the people are more similar so would be easy transition than culture shock of Europe somewhere.

West Indies somewhere like Jamaica would be third.
