How do you change teams from Essendon to Freo in your 20's after Freo has already been in the comp for 5 years?

Unless your name is name is Tony Delaney and you went for Essendon during the finals (not Freo or the Saints), it doesn't make sense to me.

Because my family was one of the first families to settle Essendon (back when roads off Buckley Street were still dirt) and this new Fremantle team had been patched together like Frankenstein out of Claremont rather than Souths or Easts, with a few has beens filling up their retirement funds while throwing away top picks for chump change by admin who weren't qualified to play in the big leagues. It was a sh5tshow designed to put the brakes on WC.

Then I was taken to a Freo game at Subi in about 2005 as I was starting to come out of my PhD bubble and watched in awe as a young Matthew Pavlich dominated, McPharlin was intercepting marks and running off towards the middle, Farmer was making the impossible look easy, and Bell and Haselby were in total control. And I thought, this team I can follow, and I have ever since. Essendon lost me as a second team after the peptide scandal.
