Don't want to derail the thread, and there's some superb examples there... but no room for the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul? Considered by many to be the most beautiful building on the planet. Some other landmarks that are arguably more 'iconic' than the Pentagon, for example, are the Acropolis, Chartres Cathedral, Dome of the Rock, Sagrada Familia, Empire State/Chrysler Buildings... but it's all subjective I suppose.
