The photos are a non event. I think thats the whole point. If the photo on the front cover is what set Goodwin off....then its a complete over reaction on his part too. Goodwins gone mental over a picture with his hands in his pockets and the Advertiser have gone overboard with the whole 4 page spread.

SpringChoke - You seem to be forgetting an Adelaide Crows listed player at the time was alledgedly involved in said alledged incident a few years ago.

Not my mail. I hear it was the three players who were all identified and the younger brother of one of the players involved.

disagree there, mate. sort of well-known sportsman pushes a photographer? i'm sorry, but that wouldn't be headline news in most parts of the world. it highlights our ignorance and inferiority complex, actually.
Sort of well known?
Not sure if you are living on another planet or are prone to underexaggerate things if that suits you.

This will not make headlines overseas. He is NOT a known sportsperson there.
HOWEVER,
How many better well known sportspeople are there in SA? None zero zippo.
Geesh, a posse of AFL footballers be they Port or Crows players that includes their captain and better players IS top of the pops.

but seriously, you say that the advertiser is adelaides only source of football news? come on, man.
I said main source along with 5AA

In Melbourne if I foolowed a vic AFL club I have 2 papers to choose from and 3 AFL dominated radio stations

Much more choice .............leads to better quality stories BUT over here repoters don't need to generate their own stories, the players are good enough to generate their own.

As an Essendon supporter, I stay clear of it. I will buy it on Fridays for the sanfl teams and the racing pages. I borrow them elsewhere for the other days and I rarely see anything in it that is worth the $1 except for Fridays when it is ok. Herald Sun is better, it is not full of advertising and they have in depth stories, not small articles.
That's the crux of it though - as an Essendon support you would get zilch about Essenden in the Advertiser but much more in the Herald Sun, hence why that's your main source.

Thats why I say the Advertiser has got Crows fans by the proverbial;)

yeh youre right man, we're seriosuly deprived of variety in terms of mainstream news. but adelaide is so full of n00bs that we dont think to look outside of what costs us $1.

Do not blame the Tiser too much peoples.
These type of things would make headlines no matter what country or what sport the players are involved in.
It happened to Gazza only recently.
What about top line footballers or Basketball players in the US?
Other soccer players in England, Spain, Italy or Germany be they first or even second division players?

Being high profile does have some benefits (having fun by doing what you like AND being paid handsomely for it amongst other things), but it does bring a few responsibilities with the territory. The players pucked up.
Time to get on and build bridges for them plus like Craigy said use it as a learning experience. However defending them by blaming the Tiser is not right.
?
Nope your wrong - football clubs have been having "Mad Mondays" after footy seasons for years.

There are some really stupid things done during the mad week BUt do you see reporters trying to capitalise on what is an opportunity to get some real dirt on a player?.

No the event is largely left alone out of respect for players downtime.

Now this event by Goodwin was exactly the same - player downtime for Christmas celebrations after a hard training period.

How many Christmas parties would you have wanted a photographer present?

Me? I am not a high profile person so it's different, plus if I was to pour beer all over a parking inspector I would get sued.

No, I am not wrong in what I said, but if you disagree because they are Crow players and you follow the Crows, then that's your choice.

Perhaps we can now look forward to Sprinchoke ceasing to raise this issue every time a Crows player gets into a bit of bother.

For once, I didn't bring this old chestnut up to have a go at the Port faihtfull. It was more to highlight, IMO, the disproportionate anti-AFC reporting by The Advertiser over the last couple of years.

No they haven't. I for one, have stopped buying the rubbish.

On the parking inspector not suing, how can he if he doesn't know who did it?
Harmless type of prank I know, but a person should be able to go out to earn a living for himself and family and do his job without having to put up with that sort of crap shouldn't one?

Yes they should BUT it is not something that should be sueable (if theres such a word).
The world is soft,soft,soft.

I think one of the things that alerts me to an obvious 'beat up' is that Mark Ricciuto had to be physicaly restrained.

He's the captain for christ sake, and if anyone could see the need to diffuse a situation you would think it would be him. Then again for Simon Goodwin to lose it aswell i wouldnt mind betting this saint of a photographer was probably goading them a bit.

Obviously none of us were there and we have to only the advertiser and their 'scandalous' photos of some footy boys having a laugh and enjoying their christmas period in much the same way as the rest of us would be, but for me it just seems strange that 2 such respected leaders of the club would lose control, unprovoked.

Unless they were just totally off their **** drunk...

From the read of that the Tiser was just looking to nail AFC player's why would and decent photographer be hanging around a pub????

Mountain out of a mole hill, FFS they are on leave and xmas break, leave them alone:mad:

Adelaide has now sunk so low the whole city is starting to dig:rolleyes:

Yeah, i dont get it anymore either. And if for some reason i need a local footy fix, i just visit the website. Then atleast im not contributing to the continued existance of such paper, which has essentially turned into a gossip collumn.

SC no doubt forums like Bigfooty help enormously in filling the void should you not read the Advertiser or us interstaters.

But often the news from the advertiser is simply cut and pasted into Bigfooty - so you still read the crap BUT at least the Advertiser doesn't get your money.

Did you notice how the Advertiser tried to avoid saying who actually throw the drink at the packing inspector; they seem to be using there normal ability to "glaze" over facts or incidents that fail to sensationalise the incident.

If the incident is as bad as they claimed, why havent charges been laid against Goodwin for it? The police could do it themselves, the Advertise have all the pictures, and all the conversations (at least from there prospective), they are published for all to see.

Yeah the person appears to be an average joe and not an AFC player ....so not really newsworthy:rolleyes:

Fudd, I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I know footballers are fit and strong but no matter how fit or big you are, if you have been drinking from 7.30 pm to 5.30 am and then again from 9.30 am as reported in the paper, you would have to be "well on the way" to being drunk.

I must admit, I am a little surprised that the club allowed the players to do this (binge drinking) when in the middle of pre-season training. I would be interested to know what the policies are at other clubs.

In any way, by dedicating 4 pages and the front page to it, I think the Advertiser has made this a mountain out of a mole hill. Simon was out of order and a small article on page 6 or 7 would have been more appropriate.

Found this funny actually.
Don't think Goodwin did anything wrong, good on him for scaring the scum.
The media will always beat this stuff up, and exaggerate wherever they can. I doubt Goodwin would really be that worried.

Don't normally respond to these threads BUT

Everyone says should not / will not buy the Advertiser

But you will Adelaide fans because it's your main source of footy info on the Adelaide Crows - they have got you by the proverbial

And I'll wager that nearly everyone got a copy of the paper today to view the article - and then complain...................but why complain the paper is simply satisfying your need for info on the Crows.

If that info is generated by the reporter, as it has this case:mad: , they only do it because you will do what you have done and that is buy the paper.

Same argument as Rucci - everyone complains about him but everyone reads his articles.

Contoversy and sex sells!
I don't buy the rag tiser. We get a few copies at work that circulate the offices. I only buy sunday mail. Thats in.

On the whole issue what a ********ing beat up. Thats New Idea / Women's weekly standards.

The 2 things that got a chuckle from a few people at work this morning were Huddo's and Craigy's comments. Those are classics :D

Rebekah Devlin a nice girl maybe, but she damn well has it in for the crows.
Hi everyone, been hanging around BF for some time reading your comments and as a full on Crows supporter enjoying what you guys have to say.
Now back to Rebekah. let me give everyone a little insight into what she is about. I have read quite a few articles that she has written about the Crows all of which are very opinionated and anti. She is a self-confessed Essendon wanna be Port Power supporter, lives in the Port and hangs around the Crows Tavern for any grimey little stories on the Crows. So I was not surprised she was the one that wrote the story. Every chance she gets she sticks the knife in.
You know I don't condone what Simon did for one moment, and yes he is a public figure but its because of who he is that he gets so much attention. These players do lots for charity so they certainly put back into the community, but I suppose those are pretty boring stories. Anyway thats my opinion for what its worth.

M O'L came out and said when it all came out that if his name got mentioned as part of this again he would take legal action and that he was involved monetarily only.
