I'm not sure about the yellow on the Sabbath thing, but given your interest in the topic the following may be of some assistance:

Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses advice to
people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that
homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot
be condoned in any circumstance. The following is an open letter to
Dr.Laura penned by a US resident and also posted on the Internet:


Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I
have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that
knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the
homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus
18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need
some advice from you, however, regarding some of the laws and how to
follow them.

a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They
claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in
Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair
price for her?

c) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend
of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you
clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

d) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2
learly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill
him myself?

e) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality.
I don't agree. Can you settle this?

f) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have
a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does
my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

g) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair
around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by
Lev.19:27. How should they die?

h) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

i) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different
crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of
two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to
curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the
trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them?
(Lev.24:10-16). Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family
affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

Good grief I hope not (the sanctimonious bit)! I wasn't suggesting he should be charged, just that his actions technically constituted an assault and so would be considered newsworthy given his position (high profile player, highest profile sporting organisation in town) ... and on top of that, in this age of cult of personality people will take advantage of such a situation and squeeze it for all it's worth. There was a seemingly trivial incident recently involving Roy Keane which went to court. In Goodwin's case, a professional photographer probably wouldn't move on it, but if it had been an amateur paparazzi, it could have been different.

But as I've stated - and to borrow the tiser's own description about the crows players' behaviour - the magnitude of the tiser's response was 'out of control'.

In the past few years we've had Angwin and Burns go for DUI, we've just had Johncock get off with a slap on the wrist for driving like a maniac and lying to police, and now we've got a reigning club champion maggotted in mid-morning in the middle of the city threatening people.

Is it time the boys pulled their heads in a touch or?...

What crap! Where's your proof of that? Ever heard of Chinese whispers? I heard Pickett was hanging round the grassy knoll as well.

It was a beatup of course, but the Tiser is a rag and like all of Ruperts papers, a mouthpiece for his conservative agenda. If the journos were emabarrased about the coverage of this story their priorities are completely ********ed. As Kirkby (?) said its coverage of important issues like the anti-IR rallies was shameful.

I have 2 strong sources that saw Johncock in a Henley Beach pub by himself the night of the accident. He was in very poor shape.

Sorry for the de-rail, but can I ask why everybody seems to think that Johncock's penalty of $1000 plus a 21 day license suspension was leniant? The maximum penalty is 2 years imprisonment and a $10000 fine, but it would be unheard of for this to be given to a (I believe) first time offender who caused very minor damage to parked cars. Even with the additional charges, his fine and disqualification, whilst not at all harsh (especially for a person in his financial position) was more than a "slap on the wrist" for this type of offence. Why the hell would he expect much more than a fairly decent fine and a short term license suspension for crashing into parked cars - even if he did lie about it? I'm not going to dig up articles about it, but I have noticed that the Advertiser are amongst the people claiming that he got off easy.

I am more concerned of the behavior of some of our leadership group in this so-called phenomena of "binge drinking & always have been when it concerns people who are supposed to show those much younger than themselves an example of how to behave when the leash has been let loose.

Maybe Goody & the rest were set up some what by unscrupulous media people but surely at their age & experience in worldly matters restraint should have & could have been shown.

The Advertiser will i expect pay much more attention to the Crow players behavior off field than they have done in the past & i'm afraid our club/players has to shoulder part of the responsibility for that

Yeah I don't know about this expectation that top class sportsmen are supposed to show an example. Footballers are paid to play well and to represent their clubs in a positive light. It is the responsibility to represent their club that requires them to behave in a responsible manner when they are on public view. But where does the expectation come from that they are part of a drive to improve the behaviour of the community? They signed up to play football not be educators.

Goodwin and Ricciuto and the rest of them were stupid for acting like idiots in the public eye. They've done some slight damage to the image of the AFC but the issue of public morality doesn't come into it as far as I'm concerned.

If a tennis player who is responsible only to themselves were to behave badly, let's say being involved in drug taking or driving dangerously then they deserve the same punishments as the rest of us. On top of that they would almost certainly lose sponsorship dollars. However what right has the community to demand of them that they be role models? That would be nice and people such as Pat Rafter get kudos for their exemplary behaviour but their is no rule that requires it as far as I can see.

Of course if a football club has signed up for sponsorship dollars to promote say an anti smoking message or to stop drink driving then it becomes the players responsibility to play their part. But as far as being responsible to set an example simply because you are a public figure I don't accept that's something the community can demand.
