As per my question to Macca, where's the evidence to show the Advertiser has made a fool of themselves. You, I and others on here think their handling of the incident ( if you can call it an incident ) was a disgrace but I don't see too many in the media being critical. Apart from David Wildy, I think most are just towing the party line, which in itself is a real shame.

Maybe i should have said "in my eyes" Springy, can't answer for anyone else.

Come off it PAF the Advertiser made a complete fool of themselves with their so-called show all/tell all 4 page spread & i very much doubt if you could come up with something similar from any regional paper let alone a major capital tabloid like the Tser, bloody disgraceful journalism in my humble opinion.

Still does not excuse the behavior of our leadership group though.

I put it to you that if Goodwin had been to the races and got himself into trouble with no journalists around, then the paper would have printed much the same as they did in WA.
However what happened in town, where a group of AFC leaders were making nuisances of themselves "around the corner" provided the Advertiser with a perfect opportunity to do what they did.
Very different scenario.
The Crows leadership group has the same high profile in Adelaide as Wayne Carey did in Melbourne. They probably have the highest profile out of all the people that live in SA. I cannot think of anyone else in SA that would have a higher profile. Perhaps the premier some other politicians and high court judges.
The way things are in SA wrt footy, their profile is extremely high when compared to anyone anywhere.

It has nothing to do with the severity of the incident, just paparazzi style journalistic opportunity.
The club then probably exacerbated the situation by turning it into an us Vs them scenario.

I do not live in SA and certainly did not bother going out to buy the Advertiser, but reading on here plus other on line articles that's how it came across.
In the papers from other cities it got what it deserved, somewhere between nothing and the odd mention.

Sure it may have been crap, but not unexpected crap. That is all I have ever said regarding the situation and will never change my mind about it. Seen it before and will see it again in papers from all around the world.
Hell, ther's heaps of TV series and magazines devoted to just that sort of crap.
Very high profile people + paparazzi style opportunity equates to increased paper sales in that state/country in particular during slow news weeks.

EDIT: IMO posters on here are (perhaps deliberately) underestimating the profile that AFL footballers, and in particular the leaders such as Ricciuto/Tredrea etc, have in SA just to point out that the treatment they got by the Advertiser was over the top.
No need to do that, it was crap full stop.
Where we may differ is that IMO given the same circumstances it will happen again and the players/clubs should know that.

There are others, such as Russell Ebert, who publicly stated that their handling of this business was way over the top and not justified. But overall Springy, you are right that most of the media chose to remain publicly silent on the 'tiser's over the top handling of the issue.

But that's a far cry from what they were saying behind closed doors. My comments are based on those given to me first hand by one of the Advertiser's leading journos, a close acquaintance of mine, who made no secret that he and many others of his colleagues were embarrassed by the paper's distorted blow-up over 4 pages, and had made it a laughing stock.

But more importantly Springy, the real test is public reaction. How many people have you met who felt that the Advertiser's 4 page spread and innoccuous photos represented balanced fair reporting, irrespective of which team they support?

The irony is that Goodwin behaved innappropriately, yet there has been a mountain more discussion about the Advertiser and it's rubbishy handling of it than the incident itself.

That in itself gives you your answer, Springy.

Cheers Macca/Nod. Its comforting to hear there are still journalists in this state with integrity, albeit only a few.

I dont think all the journos for the Advertiser have it in for us but from reading RDevlins articles in the past she sure don't like us so I'm guessing any chance she gets she is going to make the club look bad. She does however like Port Power and seeing that gay picture of their leadership group in the paper, looking like saints just reinforces the way Im thinking. But she and the Advertiser made themselves look like total tools in many readers eyes and who knows what type of effect it may have on sales in the future(karma). Another thing that Ive noticed is that all those that write articles for the tiser were the ones that werent bagging the paper.hmm interesting. My theory, Port need money and support and therefore dont need any negative press (when was the last time you heard anything negative about the Power) Im guessing a majority of journos in the Adverstiser have some sort of affiliation or admiration towards the PAFC. We have both money and the majority of supporters and jealousy is alive and well even to some low life advertiser journos. Thats my view anyway.

I could be wrong but I think Rucci's the only diehard Port supporter among the Advertiser and Sunday Mail sports journos. Bek Devlin says she's an Essendon supporter but, agreed, she also seems pretty thick with the Power. But she's not a sports journalist - never was, never will be. I can think of at least 100 names for her (almost all unprintable), but "sports journalist" isn't one of them.

Good work Goody.
Ive been trying to stop my nephew from supporting the crows for years with little luck but after he saw the "Ill kill you" article he said he'd never follow them again.

Pft we don't need your nephew lol. We have enough fans. I think you can take him seeing as you guys need all the supporters you can get!

Anyone that easily swayed by The Ragvertiser is better off supporting Port Power.

That may well be so, but it's obvious that he doesn't come from a bright family.

It's a bit of a beat up. But, threatening to kill someone, whether his intent was real or just an empty threat, is still illegal. Of course, it only got in to the news because he was an afl footballer. I can't see them ignoring it if it was a port player, so i'm not sure about the anti-AFC conspiracy in this case.

He is at an impressionable age. He is also a typical crows supporter. He doesnt know much about footy and he only follows the crows if they're winning.

No, that's typical Port Power supporter behaviour.

Just like the supporters who were leaving in droves at three quarter time in last year's semi final showdown. I'm sure you'll remember that.

I guess your nephew will fit in just fine down at Alan Scott Corp. after all.

Why does everyone here think that our Toots would have multiple user names just so he can troll around these parts?

He is a good lad he is. Asif he would do something like that. :)

Large Man with Dead Body: Here's one.
The Dead Collector: That'll be ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector: What?
Large Man with Dead Body: Nothing. There's your ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector: 'Ere, he says he's not dead.
Large Man with Dead Body: Yes he is.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not.
The Dead Collector: He isn't.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm getting better.
Large Man with Dead Body: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.
The Dead Collector: Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I don't want to go on the cart.
Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, don't be such a baby.
The Dead Collector: I can't take him.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel fine.
Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, do me a favor.
The Dead Collector: I can't.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.
The Dead Collector: I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.
Large Man with Dead Body: Well, when's your next round?
The Dead Collector: Thursday.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I think I'll go for a walk.
Large Man with Dead Body: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel happy. I feel happy.
[the Dead Collector glances up and down the street furtively, then silences the Body with his a whack of his club]
Large Man with Dead Body: Ah, thank you very much.
The Dead Collector: Not at all. See you on Thursday.
Large Man with Dead Body: Right.

You create aliases in a lame attempt at being funny and to draw attention to yourself.

But you only succeed in making a fool of and embarrassing yourself.

OK I'll respond to this because even though it's a little amusing to see people jumping at shadows, if a few idiots on this board say something it tends to become accepted fact around here.

I don't go round boasting about aliases like a number of people on this board do. As I said earlier I don't need an alias because I don't get banned.

You sound pretty confident so why don't you tell me which BF identities are aliases of mine. I'm guessing there'll be a few people having a bit of a giggle at your efforts.
