Need to ensure that none of them turn out the way that Shaun Tait did. Its the same for all fast bowlers around these days for all teams. The amount of cricket they play, its bound to take a toll on the body.

Whats needed is a group of 6-7 top-notch bowlers who are on the button everytime they turn up on the field. Yes, much like the 80s Windies team.

Where did you get that?

Here is a recent story
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...next-seasons-ipl/story-e6frexni-1226231448712

He could play in the 4th Test.

You need to read the article.

Stress Fractures come back over a career. This is exactly what Cummins talks about when he says he is going to minimise his cricket and not play IPL 20 20.

To have to have pain killing injections just to get through one test match as a teenager is not a good sign.

for the time being, Siddle is still the only true test bowler we have.

He is bowling really well - without luck, but, gee, to rattle the stumps of a set Dravid and Tendulker within a couple of overs of each other.......not bad.

With a bunch of fragile quicks both older and younger around the country,

Siddle is the only truly test fit paceman we have. Alas, with no decent support other than now JP.

Anyway, I've no real idea why there are people who keep writing off Siddle because of what he's not rather than recognising him for what he is.

Put yourself in the test captains shoes - and you'd love him.....and also the current captain owes him a couple after a few dropped catches over the journey. And, actually the captain owes him an extra attacking fielder too.....how ruddy defensive was Clark yesterday??

tait made my back hurt on his delivery.

Pattinson especially looks elegant in his bowling action.

its exciting, and I we can hope.

Pattinson looked awesome today and bowled without luck.

Siddle too was nudging 150 and bowling really well without luck.

I'd be happy with cummins, siddle and pattinson for the next 3/4 years.

Frankly if siddle bowled like that ever test, he'd be in the 26/27 range for bowling, not 31/32 range.

keep mindful that Siddle's career average took a hit when he followed on his initial burst with bowling hurt for a tad too long (an admirable team trait at the time, perhaps?). His figures weren't flash and he got sidelined in the end with the stress fractures in the back back in early 2010. Through the Ashes last year, he was on his comeback, and did okay enough, again without much luck, but, certainly has a better 'plan' these days.

When siddle was first selected I wondered why not mckay, who would have been victoria's and one of australia's most effective medium fast bowlers. Siddle was at that time a good ordinary bowler.

He did bowl a lot of rubbish in between good balls and good spells. He was so much like brett lee at 5 to 10 klicks slower.

This last few months he's shown that he can be a principal strike bowler. I wonder how much of this is to do with mcdermott's influence and a mature harris and pattinson to bowl with?

His bouncers yesterday were so well targeted they were brutal. his control much much better. It was a brilliant, but unsuccessful display of quality intimidatory fast bowling.

Is this going to last 2 years or 2 matches or 2 sessions is what the cynic has to ask?

Also lets face it, our fielding isn't what it was under border, s.waugh and early ponting. you could shave 10% of bowlers averages for the quality fielding and catching.

The optimist would say that he's constantly improved over the last two years and the best is yet to come.

The realist would say that he's been hampered over the last two years with a stress fracture and other niggles to go with crap bowling up the other end, but with patto_man he's found a friend. Hilf isn't much help. Ideally he's first change if Harris can get fit or Cummins can play to his potential.

The average BF flog will still keep on keeping on with the hate brigade only letting up when they start on the NSW conspiracies.

The problem is Harris breaks down way to often and is a liability in a test side and Cummins needs to change his action otherwise he'll be in the same boat.

For all the NSW conspiracy theories take a minute and realise that if Paine was fit he'd be in the team for Haddin, that'd give us 4 double headers and only 2 NSW.

wade>haddin

Absolutely. Two rather large ifs regarding Harris and Cummins.

My two cents are Wade > Paine > Dunk > Haddin.

Siddle's a hard worker and a decent bowler, and probably the ideal person for this current side. He doesnt to me look like he'll ever be a star despite always being a worker. I suspect that he'll eventually be replaced by the likes of the bowlers discussed in this thread when we take the next step up to being world class again. He seems like a Kasper or Bichel type bowler, good honest worker but just lack a little class compared to the better quicks. Still, hope he can prove me wrong.

Nevill is better than Dunk (or Haddin), so is Hartley, and Paine is a non-issue for a while yet, shouldnt be next in line anymore given he hasnt played for a long time.

Word from CA is that Cummins stress fractures in his foot may be very serious.

No guarantees that he ever comes back to the game for long periods of time.

He played his first test under injections which was not a smart move as it has just made the matter worse.

They pull that sort of shite on the kids at state level as well. It should be illegal to be shot full of crap to play under the age of 28.

Going 150 plus, and the spell he bowled across last night and this morning in which he bowled Dravid (a narrow no ball), Tendulkar and had Laxman caught behind........a pretty damn fine spell of controlled agressive fast bowling. World class stuff. Hilfy undoubtedly benefitted from the work of Siddle in picking up his 5 - - especially as Hilfy had been unable (or unwanted by his capt) to bowl longer spells on Day 2 - - the hard grinding work had been left to Siddle (he's a machine and a machine much worth having if you're a captain!!).
