Many congratulations mate! :thumbsu:

May all the wedding preperations have as little frustration as possible. Just remember to smile and agree and youll be right!

Definitely something I wouldn't do, but I hope you guys find happiness in the future. :thumbsu:

Congrats to both the posters who have recently got engaged (not to each other LOL). I am engaged as well (since 12/2007) and found out today that my graduation will be in the same week as my wedding *places a jihad on Adelaide Uni*. My advice is plan well in advance, shop around (and look for run out sales), don't mention it's for a wedding (e.g. flowers, hire of stuff) and try not to get in too much debt. The average wedding costs $50k now which is a years wage for a lot of people and a damn sizable house deposit.

Anyway, all the best with your plans and hopefully it all goes well for you.

Again, thanks to everyone for the well-wishes :)

ST - I expect the sympathy chocolates in the mail!! :D

m23 - she's the best kind of listener, she pretends she's listening but in reality does her work while I talk ;)

Our wedding's still a while away thankfully as I'm not a fast planner. We'll manage it though!

Congrats to you too jackster, on your engagement and your graduation!

Congratulations mate.
I've never even been to a wedding so I cannot imagine how much of an overwhelming feeling it is to be engaged and tie the knot.:)
How old are you BTW?

Congratulations mate. As many have noted, doing a PHD in maths and getting engaged, it almost seems impossible!!

I'm sure there will be great things ahead for both of you. Don't wait too long for the kids, they are the best thing that will ever happen to you (yes, even when they are sick, whinging, non-sleeping little buggers!)

FWIW I had my reception at the Semaphore Palais and it was terrific. We even finished the night with a brawl between the two families in the foyer...oh good times, good times....

Oh shit did I say that out loud? Oh great now everyone thinks I'm a feral!

How does a maths PhD student get engaged? By proposing to another maths PhD student (who actually managed to finish in time, as opposed to me) of course! :p

Re DJ's kids comment, take it from someone who has a two week old baby sitting on his lap, lies Stab, all lies. They're terrifying little creatures:D:eek:

:D:D

On the baby front, I have two kids aged 4 and 1. They are the best thing that has ever happened to me.
I will admit the first 6 months of the first one is petrifying! Even worse when you have on that is born prem (by 11 weeks) and spends 3 months in hospital! Now that is some scary shit!!

After you get them home and they start being able to interact it is just great. Wait until they can look you in the eyes and say "Daddy!" You will love it.
