Yep very disappointed if they won, although I don't see them pulling it off. Will not get the casting vote from Blatter in the event of a tie, so it means they must get a majority vote. With Temarii to be replaced, that makes things even harder for them.

Everyone thought they would win the 2016 Olympics with their "breathtaking" bid but were eventually knocked out quite easily.

Having said that, nothing's impossible and they may just fluke it. If they do, guaranteed worst world cup of all time.

Losing out to USA, I could handle to an extent, but Qatar, that would be an absolute farce.

If they did, look out for the aussie media to give them a regular pasting, atalana olympics style.

I think they would have aided their position by building at least one of tehes airco stadiums - to prove the concept.

As is is they built one which was like half an indoor pitch with a few dozen seats. not impressive.

Read some crap today about how it (qatar world cup) wouild make it harder for arab/muslim extremists to gain support

as if

Wont happen. It might be tight but they will NOT WIN
At least 11 ExCo,will not vote Qatar under any circumstances including the President
And you know this....how? Nice to make such broad, sweeping statements- but nobody knows what these jokers will do- deals are being struck even as we head into the last few days. If the spain/Qatar connection is there, then presumably Qatar has 3 votes from South America, since they are supporting Spain. The Asian votes would probably go to Qatar with bin hamman the leading figure- got to get rid of the other Asian countries first, of course....

Africa? Up for grabs, one would think
North America? Who knows- maybe Warner has been bought?
Europe- does the conenction with Spain bring in a few more European countries- one would think so....

We'll see in a week.

In my opinion Oceania replacing Temarii (assuming he accepts guilt and does not appeal) spells the end for Qatar. That would mean they would require 12 clear votes to win. Still haven't heard about the CAF meeting to discuss a replacement for Adamu.

You are right about Warner being a possibility - he doesn't have the greatest relationship with USA and he may just vote against them to spite them. More then likely though CONCACAF will vote us a bloc. WHat will be interesting is to see what avenue they take should the USA get knocked out.

According to the stories today on the voting, posted in the final days thread- the CAF is not meeting and the 24th vote will not be cast.

And here's an article from the BBC on the bid by Qatar

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/9224946.stm
They would be a lot more convincing had they built a real stadium for the showcase game.

Does anyone else see close crowd shots have a sprinking of women, but the longer ones show very few women overall ?

Surprised the BBC allowed that kind of camera trickery

PS Australia is a lot richer than Qatar, we just spread it around more equitably

Very worried.

If they've got a couple of Asian votes, and done a deal with voters for Spain/Portugal for some Euro votes, and in turn a couple of South American votes jump on board as part of that "Spanish collusion", and a couple of African votes are sewn up (anyone heard how they're voting?), they're almost f***in there!

If those 6/7/8 voters stick with them all of the way through, I'm struggling to see how they can get knocked out before us.

There is a massive divide in the 2022 vote.
Qatar will not get 1 vote from any developed nations except Spain( who have vested interests)
As I posted earlier-at least 11 WILL NOT vote for Qatar under any circumstances

Thats the biggest difference-Australia are at least a second preference with every ExCo(although 1 could go any of 3 ways)

They had their meeting and discussed the matter to replace Temirii
They have now approached FIFA for clarification on a replacement for the remainder of his term and won't say anything publicly until they have received a response

Thought the major sticking point was Temiril accepting the suspension handed down by the Ethics Committee. I guess if there is no news of him dropping his lawsuit, that hasn't happened- and the replacement issue is dead in the water. Of course, we are dealing with FIFA, so something screwy is bound to happen.

They want a replacement for the remainder of his term not just for the WC voting

Exclusive: Temarii set to accept guilt so Oceania can get World Cup vote back

November 24 - The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) has called a meeting of its Executive Committee on Saturday (November 27), amid growing expectations that moves may be made to ensure the region retains a say in where the 2018 and 2022 World Cups are played.

It is thought that the meeting, in Auckland on November 27, may pave the way for David Chung, currently acting OFC President, to assume the role on FIFA's Executive Committee until recently fulfilled by Reynald Temarii, one of the individuals affected by the recent Sunday Times investigation.

I would imagine that the OFC asking FIFA if they can replace temarii more or less indicates that he has accepted his guilt and if all goes to plan Chung will join FIFA's executive committee on Monday.
