I don't want to think about it to be honest. Players with Kennelly's acceleration and ability to break the lines are a rare commodity in the game and he is simply irreplaceable. Mattner will go some way to covering the loss but cannot be expected to give us the same drive that Tadgh has provided over the years.

Could one of the Sydney-ites that regularly watches the reserves possibly give a bit more info on Murphy? Does he posses the same qualities? Could he possibly fill the void or are we looking at two very different players?

How do you think the Swans will be affected after Tadhg Kennelly leaves AFL to go and play back in Ireland??
first, let's wait and see if he in fact does up and go
second, he's copped several fairly serious leg injuries in recent seasons and who knows how much longer he can continue playing at the level he's at now???
third, he's one player (a very good one, yes) but he IS replaceable and we're proving right now we can adapt when he doesn't play
and let's be a little bit enthusiastic: the squad of players we have now is only going to be better in 2-3 years, so there's plenty of reason to not get too discouraged by the anticipated (and that's all it is right now) loss of kennelly at the end of 09

on a personal note, if he helps us to back-to-back flags in 08-09, to go with his 05 premiership medal, i'd be more than happy to thank him, honour him and wish him well in any endeavour he pursues

Murphy's fast and tall. Really fast, but he doesn't play anything I'd call Kennelly-esque. I'd fathom more likee - know any fast CHB's ? Because he's getting BOG practically every week playing there.

In answer to the question: We've never had a Kennelly/Malceski/Mattner combo off the backlines, but if we do, it'll be awesome. Once he does go it'll be it'll just be Mattneski instead of Malnelly.

Mattner's doing an amazing job thank you very much... as much as we love Tadgh.. it's great that we don't have to rely so heavily on him as in previous seasons.. Leo's doing just as much running from the back as Mattneskly is doing.. although not as good but that's the excitement that Leo brings...lol..

Honestly i think the reason why so many of the 'other' fans are so peed off at us is that we're 'supposed' to be struggling this year and they just can't handle it...lol.. so they're using every excuse they can to make us look like 'cheat's.. 'untouchables'..

Bring it on i say..

Mattner tackle on Burgoyne to stop him running into a open goal in the last few minutes could be season defining, if Burgoyne had of kicked that goal i don't think we would of came back.

If you're coming up for any Sydney games this year, I'd highly recommend sitting down and watching a reserves game. The insight you get into the development of players is amazing, and hopefully you can see another Moore, Bird, Schmidt, Jack or Barlow running around.

As far as first year players go, I'm getting excited about Aaron Bruce (SG :p), Murph and Pat.

I'd love to. I really miss watching the ressies play as the curtain raisers to the real thing. It's really difficult to get any idea of how the youngsters are going without asking around on here (Liz and you other guys do a great job by the way).

I may actually get to see the Ressies play on a more regular basis as I've been offered a job in Tallawarra but I hear it's a bit of a hole (can't imagine it's much worse than ballarat anyway though.) Can anyone give me any info on the place? Is it a shithole?

I've said this quite a few times but we'll probably miss Kennelly ALOT when he leaves. Thankfully we've recently recruited Mattner; which will help the defence structure function more properly.

Without Kennelly (especially throughout 2007), our defensive structure was out of place as many of our defenders had to play out of their comfort zone and poor Malceski, had to do the running all by himself with the occasional help from Leo "makes my heart stop" Barry and Craig Bolton. We will definitely miss his quick run from defence, but having said that, with the newly inclusion of Mattner... it'll ease our defensive line up.

We have potential defenders who coming along nicely in the reserves as well. So the future at the moment, looks quite okay. I hope.
