What were the general impressions of what may have changed under the new regime.
The most obvious one to me was the run forward when we had the ball. It probably cost us 4 or 5 goals getting caught on the rebound after a turnover. There were a number of times that they got the ball 40 m clear running into an almost empty forward line, because all our backmen had pushed up, whereas the bulldog forwards hung back. This was especially evident in the 2nd quarter. This is something no doubt Blight will look to address, there has to be a balance between pushing forward and manning the backline.
The most pleasing things were the improved kicking in general, hitting leading targets far better than last year, and the desperation in the forward line. With Burke, Hamill and Callahan in the forward line, the Doggies were always under pressure clearing the ball.
Finally Nathan Burke's effort in the last minute saved the game. He must be amongst the most inspirational men to have pulled on the RW&B.
