There aren’t many guys like Selwood who get drafted and are ready to kill it at AFL level straight away . Most kids take a few years just to get used to the pace and time of the game .

That is a point that some supporters just don't seem to understand.
Players like Selwood are the exception and not the rule.

Might even add Thurlow who would have been best 18 before the knee, was struggling to get back to his best. Lang also copped a serious injury just when he should have been pressing.

The more telling point IMO is that the injuries you highlight ( bar Kolos slow burn after GFever) all happened just when the plan would have been to field a fit and settled best 22. From game 15 on.

Add to that two very ropey MRP decisions, to key players, that disrupted things in the this last phase of the year as well.

Joel Selwood wants the Cats younger players to push for senior spots

Geelong captain Joel Selwood is under no illusions that the Cats quest for their next premiership will not fall at one or two sets of feet.

Whilst the Cats acquisition of Gary Ablett has fans buzzing, Selwood says some of the Cats developing youngsters will need to take the next step for the Cats to improve.

Two, in particular, Ryan Gardner and Timm House, may have their eyes set on the recently vacated roles that Tom Lonergan and Andrew Mackie help for over a decade.
