Monfries - has already been discussed. Personally I don't think there is a place for him in our line-up. He is too small for midfield, and not quick enough to play out of defense or in the pocket.

Winders - love him but has had a pretty ordinary first couple of games back. I'll put this down to a lack of pre-season for the moment.

Nash - lovely kicking style but turns it over a bit. Pulled out of a contest I thought late in the 3rd quarter which is excusable for a young player but not something that he should make a habit of.

Welsh - Essendons turnover king. First game back I know but his disposal is the same as it always has been. I'm sure opposition coaches like him having the ball in our defensive half. Can never question his endeavour and maybe this is why he always escapes scrutiny. Why Pev and JJ cop it but he doesn't is beyond me.

Laycock - again already been said but worth persisting with. Blokes his size with his skill do not come around too often. Ruckmen don't generally come good until their mid 20s so its worth being patient with him.

Rama - would like him to get a bit more involved. Maybe it's because he is coming off a low fitness base.

Dyson - I'm seeing glimpses and he is getting better. Could be a valuable player for us in the future and worth staying with for the moment.

Lloyd - think he is proving that Lucas can play without him but he can't play without Lucas. Frankly his form has been off since his injury in 2006 and not only that his set shot goalkicking has been off as well. I'm basing this not only on last night but on his last 20 games or so. I am no longer confident when he has a set shot which used to be such a strength of his.

Am quite happy with the others for the moment.

Monfries- Agree with your point regarding Monfries, i am seriously worried that he doesn't really fit anywhere in our line up or in our gameplan. He just doesn't have the size, strength or speed to be effective. What really kills him is he's nearly as slow as Jobe Watson without any of the dominant traits that Watson brings. Also it seems to me that as his confidence has dropped his skills have also become worse. In his second year it seemed like every time he would get a disposal he would make sure it counted, these days he seems less accurate and is no longer picking out the best option.

Winders- Skills seem down a bit at the moment, i tend to agree its stemming from a low fitness base and injuries preventing good preparation for the season.

Laycock- An interesting one. We certainly have no other rucks anywhere near match ready with the exception of Ryder who i don't think we can afford to move out of defence. Bellchambers may play a game or two to keep him honest later this year but i think we just need to stick with Laycock for the moment and hope he comes good. Perhaps we should consider another Ruckman in the draft although if we were to take a ruck over an inside midfielder with our first pick i think there may be a revolt!

Dyson- Has improved significantly and is probably doing enough to genuinely be part of our best 22. Still probably could be doing a bit more but does seem to be working on his defensive side of his game and is starting to have a greater impact on games than before. I think he will end up as an average - good player.

Lloyd- Did not seem fully fit. Even contrasting with round 1, i'd say give him some time and whilst he won't reach the heights of 2000/01 again, he will be a more than handy forward for us for another couple of years.

Lloyd kept on going too early, or the delivery was too deep. He'd be in front, then have to stop which allowed Hudghton to come through with the fist.

We need to learn from how Carlton delivers to Fevola - at about knee height with him running flat out - not much a defender can do about that.

Our bottom 4 players in each game have let us down - Monfries, Dyson, Laycock, Slattery, Pev, JJ.

Not enough depth of quality. Hopefully Myers and Hislop can contribute in that department over the next month.

Reimers was responsible for Milne last night and didn't pay him enough respect in the third and 4th quarters. Milne made us pay with 3 goals once he stopped stuffing around.

Slattery was poor early in the game but was one of our better players later in the game.

Laycock was horrible as was Monfries.Dyson was ok.

I thought Knights left Ryder forward for too long. I think it was a good move for him to go forward and mix things up but he didn't really do much up there except for that one goal. I think he should have moved him back down after a little bit as he was great early on and the change had already mixed things up.

This might sound weird but Monfries is the perfect in and under player, he's small (Obviously needs some time in the weight room) but that means he has less restriction from his muscles, he'd be perfect for stoppages cause he can get the ball out cleanly and the fact that he didn't play on ball last night is probably why he had a pretty average game up in the forward line (He doesn't do well leading away from the goals).

Its his first game of the year and obviously wasn't taking any chances with his disposals.

Laycock - again already been said but worth persisting with. Blokes his size with his skill do not come around too often. Ruckmen don't generally come good until their mid 20s so its worth being patient with him.

I hope your right, because if Laycock doesn't come good soon he will be looking for a new home soon. (My diognosis for him is lack of Confidence and lack of Hardness for the ball, he has no inspiration)

Lloyd - think he is proving that Lucas can play without him but he can't play without Lucas. I've been saying it for the last four weeks..... Bring in Neagle!!!

Lloyd is hopeless when he's been ganged up by defenders, our resolution for Lloyd is to bring in support that will take the attention off him since he's our only target up forward at the moment.
