It's on the field where the improvement needs to occur.
SIMPLE concepts such as not turning the ball over, maintaining possession, and manning up are tasks which some of our players just don't seem to grasp.
It's hardly the coach's fault if players cannot follow simple instructions. These players are supposed to be elite athletes, and elite sporting thinkers. Everyone makes mistakes - but some of our players don't seem to learn from them.
Another point worth mentioning, is that there is no point in kicking to a contest of 4 or more players, especially when other players are making space.
Then again, how many of our players do actually make space in the forward line? Cupido is one, Brown is another. Gee, gotta be thankful for the experience of those two, eh!
For a side such as the Lions, the amount of times we turn the ball over is appauling. I believe, this is because some players in the midfield, don't know how to deliver the ball properly into the forward line. They either bomb it long (and turn it over), or they kick it around in circles (and turn it over).
Once again, part of the problem is because our forward line is often over-crowded.
Perhaps this is one area that Matthews needs to look at - however, it should be common sense to the blokes out on the park, not to stand in the way of the leading players.
It's down to the players to do the team things, the 1%ers, and play disciplined football.
Our midfield is definitely one of the most talented in the leauge - but I would definitely rank it amongst the most UN-disciplined.
