Have a play around with this (with thanks to Shane at DL for its existence)...

See if you can come up with a "Best 22" - if everyone was fit and available. Buggered if I can.

With Lukey Mac's move to FF, and Polly's roller-coaster form, I now see CHB as a bit of a danger spot for us. Before, we would have said - no worries - one of them for FF, the other for CHB. Now we need McPharlin at both ends... (A Pav at each end would be pretty handy too I reckon. ;) )

Anyway - have a go and post what you come up with. Some in form and impressive youngsters will be pretty stiff to miss anyone's side.

I'd post mine, but I'm too shy ( ) and embarrassed at my lack of ability to make the hard decisions.... They're all "my boys" (well except Schofield... he was the first one dropped from the current team).

That is actually really hard to do. It is tough to fit in some of the injured players now that other guys have been playing pretty well in their stead.

Anyways, my first hurried attempt (intended for a Subi home game):

F: Farmer, McPharlin, Medhurst
HF: M Carr, Pav, Peake
C: Black, Hasleby, Walker
HB: Mundy, Polak, Grover
B: Hayden, Haddrill, Parker

Ruck: Longmuir, Bell, J Carr
Interchange: Schammer, Sandilands, Cook, Crowley

Very hard done by: Headland, Thornton, Johnson, and maybe Murphy.

man that was hard...

I cannot believe you left out Medhurst.

F: Medhurst, McPharlin, Farmer
HF: Browne, Pavlich, Crowley
C: Headland, Hasleby, Black
HB: Walker, Polak, M. Carr
B: Hayden, Haddrill, Parker
Ruck: Longmuir, Bell, J. Carr
Int: Sandilands, Mundy, Schammer, Cook

I'm not sold on Peake yet. He's done well but two games against the Bulldogs and Carlton doesn't elevate him into our best 22. I would have Andrew Browne because of his pace and defensive pressure in the forward line.

Given that Crowls would be unavailable, I would be tempted to go with this team. There would obviously be shuffles according to match ups and requirements, so would not necessarily line up exactly as named, but here goes:

F: Farmer, McPharlin, Medhurst
HF: Headland, Pav, Schammer
C: Black, Hase, Cook
HB: Walker, Polak, MCarr
B: Hayden, Haddrill, Parker
R: Longmuir, JCarr, Bell
Int: Sandilands, Dodd, Mundy, Grover

Unluckiest: Thornton
Also unlucky: Peake, Murphy
(They can be the emergencies).

I also think it's imperative that Cook strats on the ground. Remember the bump that put Kouta on his backside about 7 seconds in on the weekend?

Not an easy task.

I'm trying to go for the three pronged attack up forward - if we can get Mundy (not sure if he's big enough???) or Thornton to hold down CHB, I think we can make a pretty good go of Pavlich, McPharlin and Polak as targets. Pavlich is mobile and quick enough to allow the other two to play as more 'immobile' talls, some good footy smarts with Medhurst and a fair bit of pace with the Wiz and Des. :D

Rough....very ruogh...
Thornton in my opinion deserves his place more than Sandilands,Dodd and evne Mundy.
The kid has been given some pretty big roles and done reasonably well in my opinion. Hes fast..tall and with time and gym time will be a very good defender.
Mundy from what I have seen has been given very much a loose role in the backline.
And Sandilands is so up and down its becoming anoying.

Yeah - it was tough. It came down to Thornton or Dodd. Dood for me has the touch of mongrel that we need that Thornton just doesn't have. Also, with Polak, Walker, Hayden, MCarr etc - then Thornton's "big roles" are filled by soenone else. Dodd is a handy tagger wo can play forwrad or back - and as I said has that touch of mongrel that we need.
Mundy's poise edges out Thornton also. let him play that loose role - he can with Polak, Hayden, MCarr, Walker and Grover doing their jobs.
Sandi simply because we have seen what can happen when we are undermanned in the ruck - we need him purely for that.

hayden - haddrill - parker
walker - polak - mundy
schammer - j.carr - black
headland - pav - medhurst
farmer - mcpharlin - j.lo
sandilands - haselby - bell
dodd - thornton - carr - t.cook

while the young guys have been impressive, i don't really think they're offering too much more than a headland or medhurst, they're just judged less harshly.

Theres no point, he isn't going to be playing next season.
I very much doubt that. His trade value is minimal and when he's in good form his value to us is immense. So where would he be going?

I'd be happy to get a high 2nd round pick for him, especially if he tries to hold the club to ransom at the end of the year.

A team thats sitting 11th can not really afford to get rid of a 50 goal a year player. The pressure from "supporters" and the media to make him less selffish has shattered his confidence, He just needs to go play instinctively. For the last two years he was our forward line and Jeff (quite frankly in comparasion) was absolutely terrible. Go look at the stats. Yet we have all defended the Wiz (and rightfully so).

A bit of loyalty towards Medders wouldn't hurt I'm sure.

Well said.

I thought he did ok yesterday, with a good number of handballs off to players in better position. His team game is improving week by week.
