It seems that of all the Non-Essendon supporters on this site, they are just waiting for the Bombers to fall, just so they can gloat.

Well, it will probably happen at some stage. We will lose a game and everyone will be saying "Look at these Essendon idiots". You know, some sort of crap.

Even Pessimistic, who normally posts intelligent comments, keeps saying that we have everything to lose, while other teams (like his), have nothing to lose.

Well, that may be true, but I can tell you it's a GREAT situation to be in.

If you have nothing to lose, it generally means you are no good. It means you are average. Now while it would be good for the Dons to have a "Backs against the wall approach", this isn't going to happen and it's fine by me.

I am quite happy (and I'm sure every supporter of every other team would feel the same way) to have my team hailed as the best (whether it is true or not is beside the point). It means we have got a talented playing list, and a team capable of going all the way.

It's almost as if some supporters (like Pessimistic) would wish injuries on their own team, just so they can go into a match with a "nothing to lose mentality"

I am very happy to be up the top, ready for a large fall. To have a large fall, you have to be up the top in the first place, and most clubs aren't. Essendon is.

So before all you opposition supporters get stuck into Essendon, just remember, we may have everything to lose, but it is a position all of you would like to be in.

I might also add, that I certainly DO NOT believe we have sown everything up. I believe we have every chance, but I am fully aware we could not win the Grand Final again. If there is one thing about Essendon supporters, we have enough heartbreak over the last few years, despite being a very good team to appreciate evety bit of success we can acheive.

Essendon is not an arrogant club with an arrogant culture (like, say Carlton). Sure, we are confident, and enthusiastic about our teams prospects (wouldn't you be with our list), but Essendon certainly doesn't have a "born to rule" mentality like the Blue Boys.

We are no angels, but we are going to be right up there with a big chance. Can't wait for Anzac day. *quiet smile*

Dan, I've got to give it to you, you can put a spin on any situation

You'd make a great politician, except that you go on too long, the punters would fall asleep

Anyway, 5 games winning or losing is enough for anyone, I'll be watching for a change to Essendon, Collingwood, Saints and Crows this week

well said dan. i read that whole post !!!!!

your right when you say all these bomber-haters cant wait for us to fall. Its tall poppies syndrome. Its also because its been a while since one team has appeared so much better than the rest, rather than having, say, the 3 or 4 best sides all about equal.
we will lose games and cop the "i told you so's, and stick that up yers's" but its just really exciting to be in with such a geniune chance, and knowing that we have huge potential, not only this year, but long term too. I just pray that we realise that potential. That is THE most important thing.

Talk about a bunch of wa_ (sorry almost forgot where I was, not Windy Hill).

What was the ladder 5 weeks in last year, learn from your mistakes, don't make a fool of yourself, again.

When you get that flag gloat as much as you like, until then don't try to put some spin, on the loss you had to have. It's like saying winning last week made up for lossing last year, I don't think so.

Go Rooboys, only we can gloat, we have the flag and that's what counts, nothing else.

lenny your an idiot who has obviously missed the whole point.
who said beating carlton makes up for last year ???? no one. It doesnt make up for it by any stretch of the imagination. where did that come from ?
also no one was gloating. you missed that bit too. dan and I were saying we have a great chance. better than weve ever had.
we are HOPEFUL, yet we realise how it could all turn sour. Thats why we're not gloating, (which you obviously didnt comprehend).

duh.

alot ppl dont think Carey is a very nice bloke.
micheal jordan used to get cheered by all (except cleveland fans- you'll know why if u followed NBA) where ever he went.so Maybe its just an aussie thing.

i personally wouldnt boo carey but point noted shin. :)

I'm loath to go into personalities but Roo-Girl works where I work. She is very nice. A couple of people have met Wayne at functions and say he was nice there. I reckon if there were no screens or replays at the grounds the Umps and fans would like him more also.

Remember though that Dermie was booed everywhere but now hes everybody's friend

ive heard stories from melb collegues (once again unsubstantiated hearsay) that roo girl has been very publicly mistreated by roo boy on a number of occasions at certain melb night spots.
possibly relevant.

Dan & Arch. You might not be gloating but you better tell the umpteen thousand who are to tone it down a bit! A Don supporter rang talkback and , seriously, said that he's looked through the fixture and can't see any side capable of beating Essendon! He said he knew they would be beaten at some stage but couldn't understand how!! He was supported by a few subsequent callers too!! I live in an area that is an Essendon stronghold (about 20 Jeff Fehrings from Windy Hill) and the over-confidence and gloating is wondrous. If that stuff won footy matches ,well we might as well just give 'em the Cup now.

I'm not too sure about the rest of you, but it always seems to me that the people who spend their time gloating about how their team is unbeatable and all that are also the ones that usually find something else to do on their Saturday afternoons (or Friday nights, Sunday afternoons, or whenever the AFL schedules their team's games) when their team goes into decline.

The fans that go week in week out, no matter what the circumstances, tend to be pessimists by nature because we tend to remember all the things that have gone *wrong* rather than the times when things have gone (through a freak of nature - nacht) right.
