Maybe this post sould go on the the "Bad Calls" thread...

Anyway I was watching the Coll/Eagles game on foxtel, and boy did the umps stink. All the calls and bad decisions that went against us in round 1 (vs Richmond) were happening to West Coast. Just after 1/4 time I'd counted three marks on or inside 50 (Judd, Wilson and someone else) that weren't paid. I sat back and thought "Oh well, them's the breaks. It looks like we're going to win by heaps, so it won't matter in the end". I went off to babysit my nephew and found out about the final margin that night.

I didn't see the last half, but unless the umps really squared up, you'd have to say they influenced the outcome. Its a real pity when that happens.

I must say I was very impressed by the cheerful way the eagles on this board took the result. You seem to be the least crotchety fans (except when dealing with Dockers).

Hmm, i suggest you look a little further down the threadsand find one titled 'Livid!!!!!!!!!!' which i posted about the umpiring a few minutes after the game. ;)
Having said that, once you get over the disappointment of losing, hey, thems the breaks, sometimes you have crap umpires, sometimes (but hardly ever) you don't- looking back on it, there were x amount of other reasons why we didn't win, so there's no point in bitching. In any event, it was an extremely hardcore, nailbiting game, great to the very last minute- as a fan i don't think you can be upset with your team after a contest like that.

I think many of us were a bit annoyed with the umpiring, but I think some shocking decisions affected both clubs.

Still, we shall remain positive as it was a loss by the barest of margins. If this was us last year, we would have been walloped by 10 goals......

Yea, early season hysteria.......guilty.

I can't remember who posted it but they reminded us of the early 90's and how we had to be better than the opposition and the umpires to win........too right as well. In fact I think it has improved significantly since then although it's still there and something we just have to accept as part of being Eagles fans.

We can whinge..and perhaps justiofiably do so.....but all we will get is a bagging from the other members and the score will remain the same.

What goes round doesn't always come round. (did I get that right?)

Thats probably because last season in the same game we got beaten by 80+ points and it looked like being the same half way through the second quarter. But we rallied (which is a new whoosha trait) and almost won the match. I think that why we were a little cheerful about the result.

But as Mead said, we were LIVID!! about some of the decisions and we vented that frustration in that thread :D
