Rd 2, Season 02 - Team Pump v Titans

This was the first time that one of the major sticking points of the Sim commentary came up - that being the shot on goal right before final siren time. If the match finished, the result of the shot on goal is ignored. As a rule, it is to be assumed that no score was added. But tell that the folks who were on SS11 to win them the match!

Code:
4 : 23.85 - SIGSCOTTY HAS A SHOT AT GOAL.
4 : 23.94 - SIGSCOTTY LIKES IT AND SO DOES THE GOAL UMPIRE.
PUMP : 18.14.122
TITANS : 18.13.121
4 : 23.94 - BIGPOPPAPUMP KNOCKS THE BALL DOWN.
4 : 24.12 - GOSOUTH HAS POSSESSION.
4 : 24.21 - HIS KICK COVERS MORE HEIGHT THAN DISTANCE.
4 : 24.3 - NO-ONE CAN TAKE THE MARK.
4 : 24.39 - DOGBOY_23 HAS POSSESSION.
4 : 24.49 - WESTY TRYING TO OFFER A LEAD.
4 : 24.57 - UP GOES WESTY.
4 : 24.67 - WESTY IS NOW OFF AND RUNNING.
4 : 24.85 - SS11 HAS ANOTHER.
4 : 24.94 - HE HAS A SHOT FROM NOWHERE.

Oddly enough, nobody took it up with me on the thread. They assumed it was just simply not complete, and that I'd turn up later and add more commentary.

They were wrong.

Upon realising this, a new thread appeared : Mobbers, can you please finish Pump V Titans?

I was forced to issue a short press release

This was early in the second season, so fully fledged whinging was yet to be developed, and not too much else was heard on the matter.

Rd 14, Season 02 - Hurricanes v Seventh Wonders

EaglesKickAss had run the 2nd season from approximately 1/4 way in. He'd run the Wonders team the previous season, and now ran the Hurricanes club along with the league itself.

He'd just changed computers, and back in those days, there was tweaking that needed to be done to the sim to avoid outlandish scoring, depending on what system your computer was running (these days its pretty much constant regardless of the computer).

Round 14 saw his old team take on his new team, and his old team won. Then he played and recorded the second match on his new computer, and was surprised to see scores of 400+pts by both teams.

It was possible to backtrack the details and re-run the round, but not just the one match. If he was to re-run this odd-scoring match, he'd have to re-run the Wonders/Hurricanes meeting, too.

Sensibly, he went straight to the punters and asked them what they thought. The consensus was to re-run the matches. EKA confirmed his decision to re-run the match, and fortunately, the replay gave the same result for premiership points purposes.

After expressing regret that his team lost, EKA responded with a short prayer of thanks after the match :D :
Assumes Hurricanes Captain Role: DOH, unlucky hurricanes, we'll get em when it counts in the finals
Assumes SFA Admin Role: THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!!
Of course, he was right on all counts,as the 'canes did go on to 'get em when it counts', in the Grand Final, no less. EKA has thus far refused to tell us how many times he had to replay that match :p

Match Over!
Don't see anything odd? Check out the time-stamp of the last play. Either EKA pissfarted around with the ball for 6 minutes, or the match for some reason concluded early.

While the actual match thread remained very placid, site Admin Frankston Rover was queried over this anomaly by Wonders chief Kerr4PM. Kerr4PM had recently been in the Fantasy Footy news for all the wrong reasons, and there was some suggestion that this result could be interpreted as a form of reprisal. Frankston Rover maintained the Sim's actions were not tainted by human intervention.

The match result stood, Kerr4PM remained unconvinced, and relations broke down even further than the low they had already reached.

Soon after, the West Coast Wonders met Frankston Rover's team, the Southern Sharks, and the Wonders romped it in by 10 plus goals. If that wasn't enough to even the score, just wait until you read about Season 7's Qualifying Final!

Author's note:
My experience as the sod who programs the Qooty sim does put me in the position to make some comment. In those days, the Sim did, indeed suffer from the odd timing issue. Quarter lengths were based on timer checkpoints. I had seen this happen before, usually if computer resources were compromised to a point that everything was temporarily hung up for a while. The reverse was also true, and more common: a checkpoint (quarter end) could sometimes be missed by the program, and a match could essentially run for days if unchecked.

These days the game runs, not with timer checkpoints, but with a predetermined number of transactions to get through, calculated to consume approximately 100 minutes of game time. If you pause the program, upon resumption the speed of play will accelerate in order to catch up to the quote of transactions per quarter. This has eradicated the issue of matches sometimes ending far too early, or not ending at all!

Rd 13, Season 07 - Mt Buller Demons v Bigfooty Dragons

Amongst the Demons named for this match was Tarkyn24, who was actually a suspended user at the time of play. This is in breach of rules, although it was an honest error, not anything malicious. The Mt Buller selector simply didn't realise Tarks was unavailable.

The question of re-simming the match was posed, and the administrator TFLUA-Tiger offered this option to the Dragons. They basically could either take it or leave it.

As the Dragons had won the match, they considered it a poor option to risk the four points with a rematch, and the result stood.

This anomaly slid away into obscurity, until Tarkyn24 picked up 3 votes (the first in his career according to Tarks!) for the match in the Mobbenfuhrer Medal count!

At least he didn't draw too much attention to it :D

=====================================
SIREN SOUNDS FOR THE END OF QUARTER 4
SOUTHERN SHARKS : 8.21.69
THE ROYS : 13.6.84
=====================================
Its no mistake. The Admin who simmed this match, Frankston Rover was forced to deduct a 5 goal penalty from the Sharks total due to a late team submission from their captain. The late submission therefore cost the Southern Sharks this match. They would go on to play a first semi-final, instead of progressing directly to a Prelim. The Sharks indeed lost the first-semi, and bombed straight out of the finals series.

As unsettling as this is (rightly or wrongly), the magnitude of this sensation is not apparent until you learn/remember that the Sharks captain who transgressed was, yep you guessed it: Frankston Rover. You just can't help but feel for him.

Due to a late team submission from the Southern Sharks (I was away on holiday, sorry team), the Sharks incur a 5 goal penalty.

Therefore, the Roys are the winners and progress to the Preliminary Final in a fortnight.
A wide range of protests came forth, from everyone on the continuum from Sharks to even Roys, but FR held his stance and waved the league's rules in defiance. It was written. In fact, it was a new rule penned only that season, by Frankston Rover!

The most eloquent summation of the situation came forth thus :
The guy has balls.
In case you're wondering, the Roys lost the preliminary final.

Rd 5, Season 11 (East Side Hawks v Geelong Gumbies) :

BettsMagic stunned all with five goals one behind in a power display from a forward pocket.
Code:
Betts Magi 0 6 1 1 2 0 0 5 1
The Gumbies, thanks mainly to this performance, brought the Hawk's 4-match winning streak to an end, winning by 18 points over East Side.

Unfortunately, BettsMagic wasn't meant to be in the team. By the time the match came to be played, he wasn't even any longer a member of the Gumbies' squad!

Yes, he was certainly originally named, but after he fell out of favour with the Gumbies boardroom, he was delisted immediately.

Ninty's edited playing list excluded BettsMagic from the final team sheet of the Gumbies, and this was confirmed in the very next post by peterss.

Despite some fair interest in the result, it was to stand unchanged. Firstly, there were rules against playing a suspended player, but not a delisted one. Secondly, there was argument that the change was made after the cut-off date had passed (a comparison of last edit time and OP require time does suggest the change was made late). There seems every chance that the team used wasn't in error, at all.

The Gumbies won, the Hawks felt it was the loss they had to have, and Boncer even got his statutory dig at the Admin in, which will probably come up vividly if he makes a single slip-up during his administration of the league in Season 12.

Oh, and BettsMagic asked the Roys if they had space available. Fred said "not on your life" :D

rofl if you want to point out the match for me, I can add it

I'll also eventually get to the unchanged lineup match you were involved in, Tarks.

And there is some reference to a Gumbies finals loss due to penalty from about 2005ish that I haven't found yet.

BettsMagic was named for the Gumbies before being delisted after the deadline for submission but before the match. Ended up kicking 5 goals (may have got Max. Mobb Medal votes too)

A bit of a murmer was had but nothing too bad.
