How is test cricket going? Playing against one of the biggest drawcards in world cricket and there's about 200 people there

The crowds became pretty strong for the last couple of Tests when Sri Lanka started to beat Australia last year. I recall for the final day of the 3rd Test that the ground was largely packed.

Test crowds generally have never been particularly strong in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is in a similar position now to where Bangaldesh were a few years ago. Long way to go for them to get back to a consistently competitive level.

A problem they have now is that they no longer have Bangladesh - and perhaps even the West Indies - for an easy kill.

For all the s**t they copped in the past for getting runs and wickets against the lesser teams, it was always a great method of easing their players into test cricket and teaching them how to win, how to bat/bowl at test level. Like on the job training.

Zimbabwe aside, that opportunity doesn't really exist at the moment because Bangladesh are probably their superior in Bangladesh at least, and right at the moment I doubt they would get a win in the West Indies.

Get Matthews and Chandimal at the moment and you can almost write the rest of the innings off.
