rthopaedic surgeon Dr. David Chao doesn't expect Andrew Luck (shoulder) back until November.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Colts were targeting a Week 6 return for Luck, but Chao always considered that a "tight timeline." Chao believes Luck will need about four weeks of practice before he's game-ready. Considering he hasn't been cleared to practice yet, it looks like the earliest we'd see Luck is November. Getting Luck back in six weeks was always a pipe dream and in hindsight, the Colts probably would have been better off stashing him on the PUP list.

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts discussed Frank Gore with the Eagles before Tuesday's trade deadline.

The Eagles ended up thinking bigger and acquiring Jay Ajayi. The Colts seemed to make everyone available — with T.Y. Hilton, Vontae Davis and Donte Moncrief joining Gore — but ended up standing pat. The Colts could eventually cut 34-year-old Gore, but he would be subject to waivers. Every player is after the trade deadline.

New England might be keen on a trade for a backup QB if everyone is on the table.

Eagles signed QB Nate Sudfeld off their practice squad.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, another team (we're now hearing it was the Colts) forced the Eagles' hand by trying to poach him off the practice squad. A sixth-round pick out of Indiana in 2016, Sudfeld will handle third-string duties behind starter Carson Wentz and backup Nick Foles.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Andrew Luck's surgically-repaired shoulder "stopped getting better" about a week and a half ago.

Per RapSheet, that's when Luck started seeking second opinions, visiting "4-5" doctors. Their recommendation was to stop throwing for "several months" in an effort to stamp out the soreness. It's concerning news, as it means Luck is still without a concrete timeline 10 months after going under the knife. Speaking Thursday, GM Chris Ballard insisted the issue was not career-ending, but rather ominously added the team was "doing everything we can to have a chance to have a long-term career." It's hard to believe Luck won't be ready for 2018, but knowing what we know right now, it should not be taken for granted.

Colts will be very strong again probably sooner than other teams on a downswing at the moment. You get Luck back, your D is vastly improved, good WRs. High hopes for 2018.

Top 2 picks will likely be QB's too and the Colts don't need a QB.

Barkley perhaps.

Barkley and Luck. Add some more D pieces, get some OL in the mid-late rounds. Voila!

They lost their stud rookie safety early in the season too malik hooker..assuming they add barkley they also get their stud play making ball hawk back on defense.

From there the focus has to be O line.

The patchwork pass rush was ok this year..Definitely still needs better talent, but O line has to be their priority after going BPA with pick 3

Luck, Barkley and TY Hilton is a trio similair to what the steelers boast the moment.

NFL.com's Tom Pelissero reports Cowboys LBs coach Matt Eberflus is expected to serve as Josh McDaniels' defensive coordinator in Indianapolis if McDaniels accepts the job.

McDaniels' hiring is not official but is trending that direction. Considered something of a secret weapon in Dallas, Eberflus is also the Cowboys' passing-game coordinator. He's an on-the-rise assistant who would be a huge get for McDaniels' staff as he tries to avoid the mistakes that plagued him his first head-coaching go-round in Denver. Per CBS' Jason La Canfora, ex-Raiders QBs coach Jake Peetz is the favorite to serve as McDaniels' offensive coordinator.
