Vince is a long strider not really a crumber.

As great a supporter as Iam of his he still has a lot of areas to improve on ......he is a midfielder that's for sure , but IMO he has to strengthen his body and play more inside than at present.

He reads the game well, has a great footy brain but is more outside AP than I would like ........and he does appear to be of reasonable pace BUT one paced, which is a touch concerning.

The leg speed thing is a bit of a myth. Just looks slow with his loping running action, would be of average speed imo.

There's nothing to disagree in the above WW. He definitely plays his best footy as a mid-fielder.

The two qualifications though are:

1. Vince has played not much more than bugger-all footy since coming from basic country level and has a lot of tempo adjustment still to make.

2. He had no pre-season due to injury and desperately needs one. Hopefully he'll get that this year and we should see a vastly improved player.

The one question mark is still pace though. He needs to improve it.

We all know how important Bode is to this team, but can we carry him for another season considering his inability to get on the park?

I think this quote confirms that Bode will be a Crow in 2008. Let’s hope he can get his body right because when fit there aren’t too many more important players to our team. :thumbsu:
I'm not so convinced Bode should be on the list next season. Sure he is a 1st 18 player, but he is not much use injured most of the time. Regardless of whether Bode is kept or not, we need to draft pacy forward/midfielders.

If its so easy why have we struggled most of the year to find a replacement?
Exactly right :thumbsu:

It's the footballer's graveyard, very difficult to achieve any sort of consistency there and it would be great if Bode could have another year up there for us.

By the sounds of it he will be retained. I am a bit 50/50 on him. You can find good forward crumbers without too much trouble and can be a good place for a younger player to learn the game. If it was me given the state and age of the list I would move him on reluctantly.

Like we found one this year? Don't think these crumbers are falling off trees down Adelaide way. ;)

As I said in another thread, I doubted the Club would let either of Biglands or Bode go seeing as they've nursed them both through serious injuries this year. The biggest worry I guess is that both Bode and Hentschell are coming off knee injuries so their mobility may be questionnable.

Correct ...has never completed a full PS ......hope his knee problems have been done and dusted becuase he certainly has talent.

Next year ...pretty important that he strats playing regularly ......what is it 6 games this year .....needs to be 14 next and in the midfield ...needs another 4-5 kgs IMO

If he was a racehorse he'd be put out to stud but players like Bodey don't come around every day so I think giving his body one more chance would be good for us.

There are tonnes of small forwards around to draft but it is one of the hardest positions to play. As a crumber you really have to take every opportunity to earn a living. Bode is a very good forward crumber- his forward defenseive pressive is second to none. He has created so many goals from chasing it's not funny. While there could be many that could fill his role as a forward crumber in the draft, it is hard to find a successful one.

That doesn't play much of a role really. We delisted Ryan Fitzgerald and Andrew Crowell while they were still recovering from knee reconstructions.

Biglands is contracted so no way he gets delisted. Might get traded but thats as far as it goes. Bode is most certainly out of contract. He said so himself the other day on 5AA before the game. Players in the same category like Bode don't get more than 1 year contracts.

I think people focus too much on his defensive pressure and sell him way too short in other areas.

Besides being a defensive force, he is without a peer, THE best at reading the ball off hands on our list. He is THE most natural crumber that we have. That aspect of his game is as good as his defensive work inside 50.

No point in putting him out to stud yet. We need him to play another 21 games before he becomes F/S eligible as a sire.:p

He has currently played 108 games, but 29 of those were for the Dark Side. Only 79 for the Crows, so far anyway.

2006 he was the best small crumber in the league. Maybe not statistically but for the way he fits in with our forward group and the role in our team he plays. Not just for his goal kicking but his ability to hold the ball in the forward line. This has been a key ingredient missed this year. Last year even when our talls missed out Bodie worked at keeping the ball in the area. I think a key reason we have lacked forward pressure this year is the loss of the Bodster....

Campbell is not a forward. While he’s a terrific tackler, does all the 1%’s and applies good defensive pressure, he’s not a forward. He’s spent a bit of time up there this season probably because he missed basically the entire pre-season so he’s not fit enough to play in the midfield for an entire game. Don’t make Bryce into something he’s not; he's clearly at his best in the midfield getting the hard ball and supplying the forwards.

As for Bode that’s a good point you brought up about stints in the midfield. He had nearly 450 possessions in 2002 and averaged almost 18 touches a game so he’s definitely more than just a goal sneak, but that’s probably where he’s most needed these days.

Bode started out as a midfielder as well. Can't always play in your primary position. I think he'd adapt and have an impact until he is ready for a permanent spot in the middle. Can't have half the team playing in the midfield.
