What? Eddie racist! Just because of a poor choice of words on radio? Sure he put his foot in his mouth, and paid dearly for it, but to suggest that Eddie is racist is ridiculous.
The bond between aboriginal players is closer than the bond between non-aboriginal players.
When Adam Goodes states he no longer considers Eddie a friend for his comments, others take notice.

I couldn't agree with this post more. I said this to a mate of mine after the draft last year. The Suns were really ballsy at last years draft, and it seems as though we aren't prepared to make the tough call by drafting a gifted young aboriginal player. At the time I wasn't impressed with the selection of De Goey, as I saw him as another vanilla, hard working, toiling battler, where Geelong rolled the dice on Cockatoo, and Gold Coast took Touk Miller (just as examples).

In hindsight, I'd take De Goey a million times over, as he has proved to be so much more, and also proves that when it comes to drafting, I know jack shit. I'll happily admit that. I would love to see us be bold though, and take an aboriginal kid that can potentially win games off his own boot, and can make the opposition look clueless at times. We don't have a lot of flare in our side, in my view we lack it badly.
Gold Coast have drafted plenty of aboriginal players, with 8 on their list this year being the competition high. Touk Miller had a very impressive debut season, I realise you may not have been suggesting otherwise but just in case anyone wasn't aware his heritage is African-American.

It's not so much the indigenous players choosing the club as the club choosing the players.

Wow, I didn't know that. His highlights leading into last years draft had me hoping he'd still be around by our pick 30. His first season was outstanding at the Suns, they've got a good one there

He played every game as well, they obviously had plenty of injuries but it was still a terrific effort by a first-year player.

If you are basing it in quality we have not done so well, but if you are basing our recruiting solely on the amount of indigenous players we have recruited, then we have recruited the second most indigenous players over the past 20 years.

The Pies have recruited 14 indigenous players over the past 20 years (since 1995).
Brad Dick; Richard Cole; Anthony Corrie; Robbie Ahmet; Tony Armstrong; Shannon Cox; Leon Davis; Chris Egan; Andrew Kraukouer; Adrian McAdam; Jason Roe; Travis Varcoe; Sharrod Wellingham and Peter Yagmoor.
Over the same period:
Fremantle - 20
NM - 10
Sydney - 5
Carlton - 4
Adelaide - 7
Essendon - 12
Hawks - 9
WCE - 9
GC - 6
Melbourne - 12
Port - 14
Geelong - 6
Lions - 8
St. K - 5
Richmond - 7
GWS - 1
WB - 10
Kirk Ugle was indigenous also

Have you discovered this through experience? Through hawking your tackle or searching for a kindred spirit? Joking of course!;)o_O:rolleyes:

Yes I have to declare myself a 'Dick' lover too. The saddest losses are the Lee Walker and Brad Dick players with serious talent whose bodies have the resilience of a pretzel stick. You get glimpses of how they can be, then news that injury has snuffed out their careers and dreams.

I also mourn about Rusling.
Would have been a gun if not for the dodgy shoulders and other injuries.
He got the shoulder right and Freo w***er (- full back- forgot his name -) 1st round of season lined him up and broke the bone in his shoulder. Absolute dogs act. There was no need to whack him.
Doctors said that the hit would have injured anyone.
He was never the same after that incident. Missed whole season.

Interesting to consider that the indigenous population of Australia is around 2% of the total population.

And the indigenous population of AFL players is running at 8.9%

Indigenous players seem to be quite well represented in our game.

I recall reading somewhere that a similar over representation is just regional players in general regardless of race. Don't have the figures or anything but makes sense when you consider how big football is in small towns and in the country.

Yes..
He's still very good, I saw him play a couple of games last if iirc but he's smaller than Kennedy and Blair.
Sometimes that's to his advantage, he's the kind of player who can run rings around 6 opposition players and they just can't touch him, he has incredible turning speed, but he lacks penetration in his kicking and doesn't have the kind of endurance needed for the top level. Shame no one gave him a run he would have given us a lot of highlights, he's an exciting player.
