Individual moments of good and bad from forgotten players

Did someone say Tim Ruffles? I trot this story out every few years: I went to a WAFL game he played in in his first season (Rd 12 2009 Perth v East Perth) and he was on a different level to everyone else out there. He physically looked like somehow one of the under 16s players had been swapped into the game at the last moment, but every time he went near the ball the Royals defenders were visibly panicking. He just had too much speed, agility and judgement of the ball drop to stop him turning the defence with each touch. He ended up kicking 5.3 from 16 possies (kicked a third of the Dees goals himself playing off the hff).

I thought as I was watching ‘s**t we’ve hit the jackpot’. Unfortunately that tiny frame proved to be as durable as it looked (I.E. not very).

My mate watched a game of footy for the first time with me. It was 2005 against st kilda when we lost by a point.

Scotty Thornton, instead of bouncing the ball, tapped it on the ground with his hand instead and my mate thought it was the funniest thing. Hes like how the hell does he get to the big league without knowing how to bounce the ball??? He was in stitches. Never watched another game

Have to go back two and a half decades when probably many on here weren't born. It was the club's second game in it's debut 1995 year. Leigh Wardell-Johnson kicks 3 in his debut and got the premature Radar-Johnson nickname. Sadly delisted at the conclusion of the club's debut season playing 11 games kicking 10 goals.

What was the reason that Hyphen only lasted one season.

Was it work related like Peter Miller ( Metalurgist ? ).

I can't recall if that was the case but possibly it was. But I see his son Hamish Wardell-Johnson debuted for Wesley College back in August. Hyphen-Junior?

Liam Jurrah. A shooting star, burned out too quick. Would love to have seen him play a few more years. Absolute magic, and we never saw the best of him.

I remember Peter Faulks getting injured in front of me going back with the flight, think he broke his jaw and was never seen again.
Marcus Drum 4 kick 4 goal game against Adelaide in 2007 in Mark Harvey's first game, a win away against Adelaide.
I remember Scott Jones taking a big strong contested grab and goaling against Port at Optus for some reason.
I remember Brock O'Brien's debut and Big Footy thinking he was the second coming before Austin Woenamirri ended his career 6 months later.
Luke Webster's winning point against Adelaide at Subi in 2007.
Ben Cunningham's 55m bomb rd 2 2002 vs St Kilda to get us a close win. I remember he rocked an afro for awhile too.

Some mentioned this already, to me this is one of the all time special Freo moments. Sound quality is not great as I saw the game being replayed and just took a vid on my phone because I’d been searching for it for years.

Good to see the media hasn't changed when it comes to knowing our players names.

Nick Suban absolutely towelling up David Wocjinski in the Round 3 clash against Geelong at Subiaco in 2010. Subes swung him to ground and ripped his shirt over his head.. Real intent in that tackle.
Also Paul Duffield kicking the winner late in the final quarter in the same game.

Luke Webster was a reasonably good player but he unfortunately had a horrible injury run. Imo could have been a solid player otherwise.

He got his shirt good twice in that game.

Trigger warning - video contains footage of Morabito in full gallop.

I've watched that game so many times.

2010 was a lot of fun and it was my second season as a true Freo supporter. Went to my first AFL game that year with a couple of habour master workmates. It was round 10 against North Melbourne when we kicked 10 goals in the 3rd. Kepler kicked a goal from outside 50 on the wing right where i was sitting.

Fantastic experience that cemented me as a diehard Docker.
