I know this is somewhat of a duplication of the Rookie thread, but now that we've all been through the NAB Challenge and the season starts in 4 days, what Rookies are you looking at starting in your side (on field or on bench - doesn't matter)??

I recall a couple of years ago a lot of people missed the boat on Langdon in their Round 1 teams, so this is a good opportunity to discuss the best Rookies so BF people can get a leg up on the plebs.

For the purpose of this thread, list your four lines with any player prices < 250k. Bold those you are not 100% convinced on.

Brown / Dalgleish / Saad
Cripps / Sheed / Anderson / Ellis-Yolmen / Heeney / Miller
Read
Clark / Salem / Hogan / Lonie / Krakouer

I'll kick it off..

Brown / Dalgeish / McKenzie / Saad
Cripps / Anderson / Heeney / Ellis-Yolmen / Miller / Lambert
Read
Clark / Salem / Daniel
Just a comment on Daniel Jiska, he may play round 1 and if he does it will be very likely as sub. The issue he will face is that players like Stevens, Hrovat & Hunter still have to come into that last NAB challenge side in the short term future (and two have to come out from the 24 that played). I can't see him playing three games early enough in the season to justify his round one selection in SC.
(FWIW other Bulldogs supporters can see him playing a bit early, I just can't see it unless we get two or three more injuries and I can't see him playing full games early)

Saad / McIntosh / Hamling
Cripps / Anderson / Heeney / Ellis-Yolmen / Miller / Lambert
Read
Clark / Lamb / Lonie / Daniel

Basically pick them based on if selected or not. Am I making a mistake not taking Salem?

Interesting that everyone has Read as their rookie ruck. Those with Jelwood in their team should remember that having Read will make it difficult, maybe impossible, to choose him as your VC.

This can be said for any cheap loophole option.

Brown, Oxley, Saad
Cripps, Anderson, Ellis-Yolmen, Heeney, Miller, Vandeberg, Lambert
Read
Salem, Clark, Hogan, Lonie

2 bench defenders may be Dalgleish, Hamling or McIntosh
bench mids may be Boekhorst, Smith, Steele or Krakeour
1 bench forward may be Karnezis, Lamb or Daniel

was tossing up between Jelwood & Pendles. This consideration swayed it. Have gone Read for DPP purposes, (who knows if I'll need it ), and the Geebungers seem to play later in most rounds.

You can only have an off-suit combo so to speak otherwise the loophole isn't as valuable/flexible.

Sort of half the reason of this thread. If he goes out, who comes in?

True. But most of us want a R/F and the other option, Cox, plays early in the round nearly every week so isn't a viable loophole option full stop.

Jars458 This is what I love to see. An option.

Oxley not bolded? Dead set keen on him then. Why? Excite us.

Ditto with Sheed. Why him over Newton?

Dead set keen on Hogan? Really? No second thoughts? Why?

Oxley will play early as I undersand it and his NAB numbers were pretty good. A genuine running player with a high ceiling IMO.

Sheed is a top ten pick and a qulaity footballer. Take him over a Port reject any day of the week. Melbourne have so many similar types I am not sure that Newton will score that well. Time will tell I guess.

Newton more likely to be a Viv Michie than Dom Tyson.

Good news. In comes Oxley.

Agreed on Newton - hence him not being in my side - and personally I absolutely love Sheed (had him last year), just can't see him scoring well enough to justify his >200k price tag.
