Injury Injuries 2022

Mummy is a living legend, but surely this is a bridge too far and a reckless gamble with his health.

The only scenario in which this possibly makes sense to me is if we have literally no Ruck available to play VFL and he plays as an emergency.

In 2022 our three listed Rucks must be able to cover all AFL fixtures.

Some funny takes in that article, haha

“My goal is to continue playing for the GIANTS until I can run out alongside my two sons, both who are currently aged under six.

Mumford, who retired yet again at the end of the 2021 season, said he did so to escape pre-season.

“If I’m honest I retired at the end of last season to avoid the pre-season, I’ve done enough of them,” he said.

Any news on Josh Fahey? He doesn't seem to be on any injury list, yet has not kitted up yet this season..
Meanwhile, draftee Josh Fahey suffered a minor shoulder injury at training last week.

“Josh suffered a partial dislocation of his shoulder in a drill, however scans were positive and he didn’t sustain any major damage,” Rahme said.

“He’ll be non-contact for two weeks before we get him back into full training and games.”

Relatively good news on Haynes

“Nick saw a specialist on Monday and has been cleared of any major damage and doesn’t require surgery on his ankle. We’ll need to see how he responds to treatment and he’ll undergo a fitness test later this week.”

Have they stopped listing the injured players a length of injury so they don’t have to keep lying to us?

Nick Haynes  Ankle  Test
Conor Stone  Hamstring    1-3 weeks
Zach Sproule  Shoulder    3 weeks
Brent Daniels  Foot    3-5 weeks
Daniel Lloyd Arm   6-8 weeks
Jacob Hopper Knee   2-3 months
Phil Davis Hamstring   2-3 months
Jack Buckley  Knee    3-4 months

At least we've now got a timeline on Hopper.

No mention of Whitfield despite the coach speaking about his injury at length in the presser?

Thinking the club is on in crisis mode this week so no rehab report on the website so basing of last weeks

Buckley
Hopper
Davis
2-3 months away so lucky to be back before the end of the season

Lloyd 6-8 weeks so should be back full training around the bye

Daniels
Should be good to go just before the bye but knowing the club and player likely to have a recurrence

Stone
Maybe next week for contact training so I would think at least 2 weeks in the reserves and back just in time for another Toby suspension

Who knows who else had issues at training likely Kennedy with another hammy and possibly Whitfield and Haynes with what ever they have been carrying into games

Hardly fringe players out however.
But let's look of the positives of those that are out the team currently. With Hopper out Tom Green has spent more time in the midfield and has shown the coaching staff he is now our most important player for the next 12 + years.
Buckley & Davis being out has given more opportunity to Stein. These 2 have been our biggest losses as they essentially play the same position and have had Keefe in their place for majority of the year or playing Haynes out of position as a lock down defender which he seems to struggle at.
Lloyd & Daniels have given opportunities to Bruhn & Peatling. It also gave Hill a chance to raise his trade value come years end but unfortunately that has backfired horribly.

Looking forward I am most excited by the return of Daniels & Buckley. Yes Hopper would be a nice addition but where do we fit him in? For Ward?

No injury report from the club this week

Stone and Sproule to have another game in reserves

Daniels needs another week of intense training and then a game in the reserves with his injury history so after the bye
Lloyd still rehabbing his shoulder so maybe next weekends reserves game and seniors after the bye

Hopper, Davis and Buckley later on in the season

No surprises that another player re-injures with a soft tissue

Nothing from the club but I was surprised Stone was named as i thought another game in reserves was needed and maybe it was a throw of the dice by Cameron. I think at least it will be 4 weeks but we will see when the club releases the injury report

Daniels a possible for reserves but with his history I would think after the bye

Hopper, Davis and Buckley all weeks away and will need game time in reserves and we may not see Buckley in AFL this year with still 6-8 weeks away and likely to need 4 weeks in reserves maybe the last game of the year although not worth it with the clubs position

Not sure on any others with Bruhn likely a few days with illness but again I think after the bye for seniors
