Hmmm, seems we haven't created this thread yet for season 2024?

OK, in the lead into round 1, here we are:

GREATER Western Sydney's midfield star Callan Ward could miss up to eight weeks after injuring his AC joint following a fierce tackle from Collingwood's Beau McCreery on Saturday night, while Isaac Cumming has sustained a setback in his recovery.

Ward was forced to be substituted out of Saturday night's victory over the Pies after landing on his shoulder following a tackle by McCreery, with scans confirming he won't require surgery but will miss between six to eight weeks.

Cumming could also miss the first two months of the campaign, having suffered a calf injury during his recovery from an ongoing quad problem that he has been dealing with since February.

Meanwhile, talented young midfielder Finn Callaghan is in doubt for the side's round one clash with North Melbourne after stepping on a nail while at the beach in a freak incident on Saturday morning. Callaghan, who missed Opening Round due to a shoulder problem, was due to return against the Kangaroos this Saturday but was forced to get stitches to his foot after the gruesome moment.

Harry Perryman will return against North Melbourne, though, having recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined last week, while youngster Darcy Jones is likely to make his comeback from last year's ACL injury in the VFL this weekend. "We're pleased to declare Harry fit and available this week after holding him back for the Opening Round match last week. As a member of the leadership group, we know he is invaluable to the side, and we look forward to seeing him to return to the side this week," Giants head of medical James Rahme said.

"We now have a clear understanding of Callan’s shoulder injury and whilst he is set for a stint on the sidelines, it’s a great result that his injury won’t require surgery. He’s a tough and resilient athlete, so I’m sure he will be doing whatever it takes to return as quickly as possible.

"Disappointingly for Isaac, he’s been dealt a further setback injuring his calf in the final stages of his quad rehabilitation. However, similarly to Callan, he’ll approach his rehab with diligence and professionalism."

Young gun Finn Callaghan will be a test for Saturday’s match, with the exciting midfielder overcoming a minor shoulder injury but sustaining a cut to his foot over the weekend. Callaghan received stitches for the cut on Saturday and will increase his training across the week before a decision is made regarding his availability.

Darcy Jones will continue to increase his training loads and expected to play minutes in the GIANTS’ VFL practice match on Saturday as the exciting 2022 draft prospect edges towards a potential AFL debut.

In other news, Isaac Cumming’s return to the side has been delayed, with the emerging leader injuring his calf at training last week. “Disappointingly for Isaac, he’s been dealt a further setback injuring his calf in the final stages of his quad rehabilitation. However, similarly to Callan, he’ll approach his rehab with diligence and professionalism.”

Early prognosis

The Giants have the bye at AFL and VFL level this week which should give the likes of Cumming, Preuss and Ward some much-needed rest and recovery time. - Riley Beveridge

Anyone heard anything about Adam Kennedy's return from his ACL? He did his ACL 22 April last year, so he's hit the 11 month mark...

Still showing as TBC according to the latest rehab report on the 26/03/2024.
Yeah, you would have thought there would be a more precise timeframe available than "indefinite" at this point in time.

Tends to indicate that something went awry along the way, and he still has a way to go. Sadly. :(

 comment in this story:

Callan Ward, who is four games shy of the 300-game mark, was a noticeable figure at Giants training in the Sydney deluge on Friday.
Turning 34 next week, Ward moved well throughout the session and is close to a return after suffering a shoulder injury in the Opening Round win over Collingwood. "I would expect him for next week. He needs to get through a full week of training next week and see how he feels after that," Kingsley said. "He's probably three weeks ahead of schedule which is remarkable."

Well, that list has shortened! Kenners still TBC but at least there's some explanation, and a note that he's joined some team training drills.

Injury List – April 9

Callan Ward Shoulder Test
Isaac Cumming Calf 3-4 weeks
James Leake Quad 3-5 weeks
Nathan Wardius Shin 3-5 weeks
Adam Kennedy Knee TBC

Former captain Callan Ward could return to the GIANTS’ line-up as early as this weekend, with the GIANTS veteran set to be a test for this Saturday’s match against the Saints. The 296-gamer injured his shoulder in the GIANTS’ Opening Round win over the Magpies and was expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Having avoided surgery, the tough midfielder has progressed through his rehabilitation quicker than expected to return to full contact training this week. Should he train fully, Ward is expected to be available for selection for Saturday’s clash.

Braydon Preuss made a successful return through the VFL practice match last weekend and will continue to push his case as an option for the GIANTS’ ruck as he builds his training over the coming weeks.

Emerging leader Isaac Cumming will also continue to increase his training loads as he returns to team training and eyes off a return in three weeks' time.

Similarly, Adam Kennedy is continuing to take steps in his long-term recovery from an ACL injury last year and joining in select drills in team training.

Hope it’s that short in 20 weeks time too

Will Sam Taylor be able to play in the Brisbane game?(assuming he passes all concussion tests). The guideline for concussion is 12 days out and the Brisbane game is exactly 12 days after our game against the saints. So is it 12 days by the day, or 12 days to the time? Given the Brisbane game is at night it would be 12 days and ~6 hours since the concussion so would that mean he is eligible to play?

You can play on the twelfth day, so he's good to play either way.

Early prognosis

The Giants won't put a timeline on Taylor's return, given the severity of the concussion he sustained last week. Coniglio avoided a dreaded ACL, but is still expected to miss a fortnight with an MCL injury. However, Callan Ward (shoulder) made a successful return in the VFL and could feature in Saturday's clash with the Blues. - Riley Beveridge
