HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson is optimistic Luke Hodge will recover from a wrenched knee in time to play in the blockbuster battle for a home final against Collingwood.

Hodge hobbled from the ground late in the Hawks' 116-point demolition of Fremantle yesterday that cemented a finals berth.

Defender Grant Birchall is certain to miss several matches with a strained hamstring, but Clarkson was confident Hodge's knee problem was not serious.

"He just wrenched his knee, but he is good as gold," he said.

"We had the luxury late in the game that we could afford to take him off and leave him off. Unless he pulls up scratchy (today), we think he is going to be fine."

I reckon they're playing it down but that's a little bit assuring.

Re: Injuries & Suspensions Thread

Crazy to think that Quinn can get a game before Houli; the former is possibly the worst player ever to don an Essendon jumper.

(oh, wait, Courtney Jonhs and Damien Cupido have played there :p)

Keplar? Laycock?

Re: Injuries & Suspensions Thread

Still crazy stuff playing Quinn over Houli.

If Knights stays on for next year, I wouldn't be suprised at all if Bacher hands in a trade request.

Johns, Cupido, Laycock, Keplar, Quinn

What a proud history the Essendon Football Club have

Think I heard Hutchy or someone say that Houli or his manager is already talking to GC or GWS??

I wouldn't be suprised. Even though i'd be very dissapointed to see him go, in some ways i'd feel happy that he'd be given the chance he deserves.

I'm sure Sheedy'd be interested, but he'd have to get him to the rookie draft to be able to pick him up this year.

Re: Injuries & Suspensions Thread

In today's Herald Sun:

Luke Hodge in doubt to face Magpies

BONE bruising to the right knee has put Hawthorn midfielder Luke Hodge in extreme doubt for Saturday's game against Collingwood.

The Hawks plan to give Hodge a light week at training after a scan cleared him of ligament damage.

It's uncertain when Hodge will play again, depending on how his knee responds to rest and treatment.

And.....

Dirty day for Dogs

ADAM Cooney's season ended yesterday when scans revealed a damaged hamstring tendon.

The Western Bulldogs had hoped it was only a muscle strain but their worst fears were realised when it was revealed Cooney's injury was where the tendon attaches to the leg.

That put it into the five or six-week category, which ends the Brownlow medallist's year.

And..confirming what we already knew:

Pods may miss finals

THE MATCH review panel has offered Geelong's James Podsiadly a two-match sanction for a high bump on Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs.

If he accepts the ban, he will not only miss the Cats' round 22 clash against the Eagles, but also the first qualifying final against St Kilda.

Geelong's Josh Hunt also faces a two-match ban...EDIT: just realised fods already posted this :o

Podsiadly's carry-over points - from a striking charge earlier in the season - boost his charge to three weeks, but this can be brought back to two if he lodges an early guilty plea.

Re: Injuries & Suspensions Thread

Traded Hunt to Gilbert at the last minute last week. Looking like a good move now.

Hope Hodge comes up...certainly don't want to have to play Smith this week if I can avoid it.

Re: Injuries & Suspensions Thread

Well, Saints are going to make at least 4 changes according to Lyon. One will likely be Armitage so you can bet at least one of the mids will get a rest.
